I appreciate you saying that, Jessica. Thank you for not giving up on it, either. It's disheartening to see people using their platforms that were intended to be helpful for spreading dangerous misinformation instead, but that's where we're at. We'll just have to move forward from here. The question is how.
Thank you for your enlightening and moving words. I’m sorry that this has happened. One would think that an organization that cares about the health and wellbeing of the world’s natural resources and environment would also care about the future of all its inhabitants, not some, but all of them.
I have been hoping this generation coming up would be the ones who get us out of the cycle of wars and conflict that I’ve lived through all my life. Perhaps they haven’t gotten to college yet. Those who threatened and sent those students into sheltering in a library are a huge disappointment.
I live in Maine and we are living through our first and hopefully only mass shooting we will ever have to endure. Is there any indication of hope for the worlds people to finally get along better? Will the rage and condemnation that seems to still exist between ethnicities ever subside for good?
My little granddaughter is one quarter Italian/American, one quarter African/American, one quarter comprised of French Canadian and Irish/American, and the last quarter Native American of the Apache Nation, and Polish Jewish/American. I love every bit of it.
Pretty soon she will be starting preschool and will be participating in lockdown drills.
Are better times coming?
Sorry for the length. I’m normally not this wordy.
Thank you for this thoughtful and heartfelt comment, Wildflower. I'm just getting back to Substack after another break, so thank you for your patience with my reply!
You have been so articulate in pointing out the irony of how an organisation that is supposed to be about compassion for all living beings has decided to make that commitment conditional. The hypocrisy doesn't help their cause.
I think you're right about the issue originating with education. There needs to be more education about world history in general, including ancient history. The primary emphasis on local and national history (at least from my limited experience with American education) is imbalanced and problematic. A lack of education about the Holocaust for younger generations is showing, and polls have made it clear that there is a gap in their knowledge in this area. We can see how that is dangerous.
I was so sorry to see news about the mass shooting in Maine. That's truly terrible. It must have been hard for you to experience that so close to where you live.
The necessity of lockdown drills in preschool is alarming. The lack of action to reduce gun violence in America is exasperating. It can all feel powerless sometimes (at least it did for me when I was living in L.A. and teaching at high schools where lockdowns were almost a daily occurrence), but it is not hopeless.
"Is there any indication of hope for the worlds people to finally get along better? Will the rage and condemnation that seems to still exist between ethnicities ever subside for good?...Are better times coming?" <---- Great questions! I will be back on Substack to do tarot readings again soon (probably in December), and I will be happy to pull a card for you then.
In the meantime, sending love to you and your granddaughter!
Thank you, Kyra. Watching a grand baby is a great antidote to what’s going on out there. My secret to survival right now. Looking forward to what you have to say. Looking forward, period.
Hi Wildflower, I shuffled the cards for you today and as an answer to your questions, you received a combination of 8 of Pentacles and The Magician. There is a treasure in the transformation you create through arts and crafts and your appreciation of imagination.
When you ask if better times are coming, the card point to better times for you specifically, and also for the people in your life who are touched by how you give hope. Part of that hope is through a creative act, or possibly a mixture of creative skills that you enjoy. In a more general sense, the answer to your questions is positive. When you ask, "Are better times coming?", the cards reply, "Yes!" Both are upright and have optimistic messages, and they say it will happen through a blend of hard work, the building of skills (along with education that accompanies the learning of new skills), and visualisation, prayer, or meditation on the possibilities of a better world (signified by The Magician).
Change starts with vision, and from there, work (8 of Pentacles) can make it happen. It happens one person at a time, and you are a part of making these changes happen, in your own family and community. Master a task that brings you joy and let that talent shine a light in the world, starting with your home and loved ones. You are raising and nurturing the next generations. And those you help will help others. You can continue to be their support, a resting place and foundation from which they can grow and build their own skills that help to change and improve the world.
Whereas the 8 of Pentacles is about skills in the material world, The Magician denotes inner skills that can help you cope with the times while you inspire others. It is about ritual or a meaningful practice (which could be prayer, meditation, visualisation, mantras, or whatever kind of introspection gives you hope and inspiration).
While the responsibility is not on you (or any one person) to change the world, just by showing up as the positive, caring person that you are means more than you may know. Do what brings you joy with the significant love that you hold in your heart, share those joyful moments with those who are open to receiving your positive energy and intentions, and you will make a small contribution to these overall shifts that are happening. Every person's kindness counts, and you are making a meaningful and fulfilling life for yourself and your family by being kind, caring, considerate, and supportive. :)
Thank you for not giving up on the Climate Emergency, Kyra. Despite everything.

Wow. And thank you. Will be rereading this numerous times.
Have a wondrous holiday season.
Thanks, Wildflower! I'm happy to know that you enjoyed the reading. I hope you have a beautiful and enchanting holiday season! :)
