This Week in Tarot: 4th of July 2022 Political Special
The Star, Strength R, and Viking Rune Sowelu
Today’s special edition update from News from the Future includes confirmations about predictions that were posted on my blog in 2017 and 2019 because they are becoming relevant in this week’s news. I will pull a card and rune stone to gain insight and make predictions about what is happening in the US and globally. I am also going to share a story about childhood experiences of how American history course narratives vary depending on the neighbourhood where you happen to live and go to school. Since this is an extra-long post, it is a combination of the next two “This Week in Tarot” articles. Finally, this post posits some of the many spiritual solutions that might have the power to influence this tragic political moment. These times have presented us with a brief window for radical, expedited change—but there isn’t much time, so actions have to be taken quickly and without hesitation.
Prediction Confirmed: 5 April 2017
2017 Ukraine Farming Prediction
On April 5th, 2017, News from the Future published a prediction article about science, technology, and farming in future news. Under the headline “Future Trends”, I included an image of an older woman who happened to be a farmer in Lviv, Ukraine.
I reinterpreted this image from the photograph below, which was included in a National Geographic article published on April 30th, 2014.
I remember wanting to make a portrait and searching for photographs of faces on Google Images. I thought the choice of this portrait was random at the time, but I remember thinking that Olexandra’s smile was genuine despite the deceptively simple act of farming cabbages. It reminded me of how happy it is possible to be during seemingly uneventful moments. Sketching can sometimes be like an active meditation, weaving together a deeper meaning with one movement of colour and form at a time. Months later, I was writing about the future of farming and that’s when I remembered and uploaded this image of a Ukrainian farmer. This is the kind of thing that can happen when I am led by instincts and let intuition guide me instead of writing about what I “think” I should be thinking about.
Since there was no reason for me to believe that Ukraine would be connected to the future of farming back in 2017, the choice of this portrait for that blog post might offer additional insight into current events. What this means to me is that the upcoming shift in the global food supply as a result of the war in Ukraine will have a significant effect on future farming. Considering that this article from 2017 focused on technology, new agricultural mechanisation will likely develop as a result of the Russian invasion. Considering the crop that is featured in this picture, maybe we will all be eating a lot more cabbage in the future! It certainly is a versatile vegetable. Tarot of the Week: The Star, Strength Reversed
This week’s card is The Star. The Star emphasises the celebrity and royalty of the sign Leo on the one hand and the polar opposite of Aquarian community on the other. This is the same card that rose to the top of the deck for June 2022 monthly predictions, so it is noteworthy to see it coming up again so soon. As such, I pulled an additional card to find out what might be different about the Star card reading we had for June in comparison with July. The next card I pulled was Strength Reversed, which makes sense because there is a connecting factor between The Star and Strength Reversed, and that is health. The Star denotes good health, but Strength Reversed does not.
Strength Reversed came up in 2019 as part of an annual reading about 2020 and helped to predict the pandemic. This means that while there will be solutions to global health issues, there will also be setbacks. It will be like taking one step forwards for every two steps back, and sometimes two steps forwards for every one step back. Expect progress, but also new obstacles, all of which will be occurring simultaneously in the sphere of global health. New health issues indicated by Strength Reversed are tempered by the healing qualities of The Star card. Like The Star, the Viking Rune stone Sowelu indicates healing, whether that is physical, emotional, or spiritual.

World News from the Future
A major change in trends will be that thin frames are becoming less popular. Looking like you’re eating enough to stay healthy becomes more desirable and will soon be seen as a sign of wealth, much as in other time periods when fuller figures were more revered due to various circumstances that included famines and widespread poverty.
Expansion of Russian Invasion
The climate crisis is going to have faster effects than we may think, and each event has the potential to generate more acceleration. It’s like being taken on a roller coaster ride from which it’s not possible to stop the motion once it gets going. We are used to someone being in control of the handle but this time it is nature that will be in control, not us. How can any human grab the handle to stop the motion when all of us are on the ride at the same time? It will feel strange because this is a human-induced phenomenon that humans will be powerless to reverse. There is a lot that can be done to make it better, though, and no matter where we are any effort will ensure a better outcome than if no action was taken at all.
There is a connection between the climate emergency and Russian aggression which the cards predicted in another article. The US is becoming more like Russia in its impingement on human rights and future suppression of free speech, and more akin to Iran in the ways that those in power will attempt to install a theocratic state. Don’t think that the Christian right who are in power won’t override the part of the Constitution that promises freedom of religion. They don’t hold that document to be as sacred and holy as they claim. Religious zealots only use the Constitution when it suits their objectives and would throw any part of it in the bin if it suited them. They cannot be trusted, but in one thing we can trust: their trust in God. And that God is money.
Scottish Independence
Scotland’s desire for independence and a return to the EU will be in the news more often over the next two weeks and beyond, being mentioned more and more throughout this year and next. Expect success but the process could take years to come to fruition. Two to three years from now, it’s a different Scotland, economically and independently, and especially noticeably by 2024.
Return of 1789, UK Isolation and Reconnection, and US/China Relationship
There will soon be a throwback to major events of 1789 in Paris, followed by a revolution in the US. An informal civil war ensues, although much of it occurs in court battles before it takes to the streets. I am not suggesting this and definitely not condoning it, just making a prediction based on what’s been in the cards.
The UK will go further into and then come out of isolation. I see a retreat, like Cancer the crab going into its shell, and then a reaching out to and rejoining of the international community. Despite Brexit, there will be a strong alliance reestablished between the UK and EU in fighting against Russia’s increasing invasion westward.
Meanwhile, the tension between US and China will result in these countries becoming both enemies and allies at the same time. It’s hard to explain what I’m seeing. It’s almost like the US is split into two parts: one that supports and is friendly with China and another that is suspicious of China. In reality, there will be neutrality on China’s end with a strong feeling of the majority in the US that will feel a camaraderie with younger generations in Asia overall, especially Gen Z, and who will want to join with China as an ally. Again, I’m not fully understanding this vision as other events will need to unfold first before it makes sense. I will look more into the future of China and US-China relations in upcoming tarot card readings.
Global Takedown of High-Profile Reputations: 2023-2024
2023-2024 will be years that focus on the takedown of the billionaire, as well as consequences for royal financial and sex scandals—but it is only the beginning, and some of the corruption in these institutions increases before it is subverted. Much of this is related to a leak that discloses some of the names of perpetrators who abused young girls in Epstein’s circle, including but not limited to Prince Andrew. Yes, we know this, but evidence will be released that makes it undeniable. More will be revealed by 2024 with high-profile and royal reputations ruined by these revelations.
Predictive dreams related to world news: On Monday night, I dreamt of a white house (but not the White House). It was a colonial-style structure built on the dirt of a former plantation. Inside, there was a convention that later transformed into a museum. Stars were on the ceiling in the form of pinpointed lights. There were also images projected onto the ceiling. At a conference panel, people stayed on superficial topics like modelling and the weather but one of the speakers kept going back to something meaningful, which was mini-documentaries about the perception of women’s bodies, particularly their weight. It was a dark day, literally dark outside, and raining. There was hope in her speech because it resonated with the audience and they were ready for change. No one cared about the superficial topics anymore. They were relieved to find something of substance at an otherwise inane event.
I also had a dream this Sunday night of flowers and grass growing on the floors of churches. It felt literal, not symbolic. Floors had been removed to make space for nature. I had a dream in 2018 about floorboards in churches before, but that one was about hiding from future Nazis in America during a genocidal regime.
US News from the Future
Historical Portrayals of Political Figures
One of my first comic books was a 1970’s comical tribute to President Jimmy Carter in the form of a colouring book. Speaking of farming as we were earlier in this article, I remember my favourite image to colour in from this book was that of Jimmy as a peanut farmer. These comics portrayed the rise of a farmer to President as a positive development. Like Lincoln before him, Carter was capable of being humble despite his position of power. This book offered me one of my first lessons in American history.
History Education in the United States
From Kindergarten through second grade, I attended a public school in Philadelphia. We lived on Benson Street which crossed Bustleton Avenue. My favourite thing about this neighbourhood was the Italian-American pizza parlour on the corner of Bustleton and Benson, but my personal history with pizza is a story for another time. An apartment we lived in at the time was in one of the quadplexes on Benson Street that are featured in this video from 34:20-36:20. Books were scarce and resources were limited at our school, but history was emphasised as an important subject, particularly concerning slavery in the United States.
Teachers told us about the origins of the slave trade, its economic benefits to wealthy white landowners, and the criminal level of human rights injustices that ranged from inhumane treatment on ships after being kidnapped to a lifetime of enslavement with little to no hope of ever acquiring freedom in one’s lifetime. Martin Luther King Day was treated as a special day in which videos of him were played on a projector in the auditorium while soul food was served to students through a buffet that was set up in the back of the auditorium. The history education we received did not attempt to shield us from the details of what really happened and always encourage critical thinking. I appreciated how these teachers encouraged honesty and criticism of our government. However, by the time I was in third grade, we had moved to a suburb of Philadelphia. The stories we were told about these same historical periods vastly differed from the education we were given at an inner-city school. The whitewashing was troubling. I even got myself in trouble because of it, but I don’t regret it.
My experience with history education at this and other schools that I attended across the United States is what I want to focus on in the next segment on “Exercises in Religion and Education”. It is not the same in every city and state, and it is probably different now than in the late twentieth century when I was attending schools in the United States. My concern is that it will return to the way it was then, or even worsen. I have many stories about this so I will stick to one for now.
When we moved to the suburbs, I attended a school where my history teacher whitewashed violence against people who were kidnapped and enslaved, Native Americans whose land was stolen, and all of those who were slaughtered by European settlers. In other words, genocide in American history was nearly completely ignored. And we only studied American history. This was not the case at my school in Philadelphia, where most of my teachers were descended from people who had been enslaved in the South. Just a century before, their great-grandparents would have been subjected to violent torture and the outrageous humiliation of being owned as property. There were no reparations or reconciliation for those human rights abuses, nor has there ever been.
Exercises in Religion and Education: Part I
So when my new fourth-grade teacher portrayed European contact with Indigenous peoples as a friendship that culminated in a happy Thanksgiving dinner as shown in a sketch in our textbook, and when she ignored the history of slavery by focusing on the achievements of founding fathers instead of the practice of owning and trading human lives, I spoke up every time. It did not go well for me. I asked about the kidnapping and torture that took place on slave ships and described some of the human rights abuses that people suffered during those times. I challenged her by insisting that people died on those ships and families were sold at auctions and separated against their will. I was dismissed, and while I felt angry and isolated, I remained certain of the facts. I knew that there were records of people who had been owned as property, lynched, and that when they were freed they still had to deal with hate organisations like the KKK who continued to burn crosses on lawns as a terror tactic. Why wasn’t any of this being studied when we talked about the history of the South? The teacher became exasperated at my interruptions of her lectures and contacted my parents to inform them that I had a “problem with history”, was not willing to accept events as they were written in the textbook, and clearly did not excel in social studies. She added that I was not cut out for that field.
Weeks later, this teacher gave us a participatory exercise. She said that Native Americans have tribes and that we Americans have our own “tribes” that we call “religions”. Obviously this was offensive to Indigenous people, especially considering that the teacher herself was not Indigenous. But that was not the only discriminatory part of this exercise. She directed us to form groups in various parts of the classroom based on our religion. Protestants were to stand in the front, Catholics in the middle, and Jews (surprise surprise) in the back. When she joined the Protestant group herself, I realised why she placed that religion in the front of the classroom. She was promoting her own religion as superior by positioning it closest to the chalkboard. It’s not as if we didn’t know what she was doing! It was basically visual proselytising and I discussed it with other students on the playground after class.
Another girl and I stayed in our seats while everyone else joined their groups. I briefly visited my friends in the Catholic and Jewish groups. While my parents were raised as Jewish and Roman Catholic, I wasn’t raised to identify with any one organised religion and the exercise didn’t feel right to me. I returned to my seat and waited for this part of the class to end. The teacher asked the other girl why she was in her seat and she said she didn’t know what religion she was. “That’s okay”, replied the history teacher. “You can join the Protestants!” Of course, she invited her to join them! A reinaction of US missionary work, perhaps?
Next, the teacher tensely asked me why I was in my seat. Her look was stern and I could see she was anticipating another argument between us. I said: “I have no religion”. Again, this did not go well. She said that was impossible because everybody has a religion. Maybe I just didn’t know what it was. No, I knew, and I said that I didn’t subscribe to any organised religion. The teacher repeated her insistence that this couldn’t be because someone who doesn’t have a religion isn’t actually anybody. They don’t exist. They’re not real people. Well, that history class quickly turned into philosophy, didn’t it? Cogito ergo sum, I suppose!
We went back and forth like this for minutes. “You need a religion to be somebody. If you don’t have a religion that means you’re nobody. So you don’t exist”, she repeated. I stayed silent. Next, she offered: “You can choose to be religious, though. Then you’ll be somebody”. “Uh, no thanks”, I replied. “You’re sure?” she asked. “I’m good”, I said. I thought to myself that if being somebody meant being like her, I could do without it! By the way, this was not brave of me. I just knew that religion wasn’t a necessary part of being human because I came from a family that was open-minded about religion at a time and in a place when that was not a mainstream belief. My father was raised Jewish, I went to a Jewish preschool, and my mother attended Roman Catholic schools for the entirety of her education, but I was encouraged to find my own spiritual path and I am grateful that I had that choice. And yes, this was a public school. There was not supposed to be anything religious about our education, but it was clearly culturally American Christian nationalism to the core! And when I say American Christian, this isn’t about every form of Protestantism and I’m not even talking about Catholicism. I am referring to extreme evangelical movement whose sole agenda at the organisational level seems to be political and which is funding extremist politicians to enact far-right nationalist agendas while they are in power. This is the kind of “Christianity” that has appropriated Christinaity itself, all in the name of patriotism and with the goal of unchecked nationalism and racism.
Anyway, I could sense my face getting warm during this awkward exchange because I felt pressured to make a choice. I continued to refuse to leave my seat. After a silent pause in which the entire class was watching me, the racist exercise finally ended. I felt proud of myself for sticking to my principles but my teacher couldn’t let it go. There was more to come, and I would pay the price the following day for my refusal to cooperate. In her defense, I did question the premise of her exercise. When she claimed, “this is how tribes divide themselves up”, I argued that people don’t choose their tribes, they’re born into them. I was definitely challenging her knowledge and it is clear that this is what started or possibly intensified the conflict. Part II of the saga with my history teacher (which has a happy ending!) and the history of my history education will be included in a future post.
Sequel to a Serial Criminal Series
let’s get back to US predictions, taking a trip back to 2020 for some insights into what is coming in 2024. When Trump says he thinks the 2020 election was stolen, what he is really saying is: "I was supposed to steal the election again and it backfired. I am angry at the people I did a deal with to help me steal the election! Why didn't they do their job?" His plans didn’t work out that time, he has been seething with resentment ever since, and felt cheated of a second chance to cheat. He is not going quietly away and is hellbent on seeking revenge, whether o his own or with a stand-in politician who will run in 2024. When I envision Biden in 2024 I see a transparent person onstage, like Casper the (friendly but invisible) Ghost. He is barely there, almost entirely out of sight by then. It’s like Biden isn’t there. Expect chaos and instability in 2024 because big changes are on the way.
More voting isn’t improving our problems, we’re seeing them worsening despite having faithfully voted and marched and spoken up with the best of intentions, year after year, decade after decade. As of this week, the consensus on voting as a singular solution is turning and there is a strong inclination amongst the public to try additional tactics. We are, after all, in the midst of an emergency, not only when it comes to the climate but also politically. This system has serious problems and what we’ve tried so far clearly hasn’t been enough to prevent disaster.
Incremental actions can’t combat extreme problems. Radical actions are necessary for fighting revolutionary difficulties.
2024 Elections
Doing the same thing over and over again will yield the same results, only election results (for as long as actual elections last) will worsen. But we don’t have to give in and go along for the ride we’re being taken on. There are so many more of us than there are of the Christofascists in minority rule, and sanity and rationality can win out in the end—if we take the next right actions. I don’t know what all those actions are so this is a time when I am continually looking to the experts for answers. Even as I write this article, there is so much I have yet to learn. I know one thing: we can’t count on this administration to do anything. They will not protect us. They are not concerned enough to take substantial action, although they should because their own rights are being usurped, too. But they’re beholden to their corporate donors. I knew there was going to be trouble when Biden’s campaign accepted corporate contributions. But they all do, right? Well, Bernie Sanders didn’t during his Presidential campaigns. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also avoided corporate contributions as a Senator, and not surprisingly as Sanders was one of her mentors. Sanders was a threat to the system. That’s one reason why, in my prediction above from 2019, I made that distinction between Biden and Sanders in my prediction. We could use someone in power right now who is not corrupted by corporate donations so they could actually be free to do something. But it wasn’t to be.
Sure, there will be others like Bernie Sanders in the future, but the system won’t be the same by then. Sandersesque politicians of the future will be working with far fewer freedoms. Also, their ability to obtain the Presidency will be even more fraught with obstacles. Biden and Harris continued to take corporate donations even to host the inauguration, an unnecessary ceremony nuder normal circumstances, but I can see in retrospect why it was important. They needed to make it clear that the election was legitimate. It was perhaps the last legitimate election, although US Presidential elections have never been fair as they are not decided by the popular vote. Not only the electoral college but also gerrymandering, voter suppression, and a DNC and RNC that choose their own candidates, thus making primaries essentially a sham, have prevented our elections from ever being decided by the people. Yet if we didn’t participate it would have been even worse. And yes, of course, I voted for Biden and Clinton in the general elections of 2020 and 2016, as did many. When the DNC and even Obama discouraged anyone from voting for Sanders in the primaries that laid bare the reality of how adverse our federal government is to any threat of disruption of the system of power dynamics, even if that disruption might result in improved circumstances for the majority of the populace. Sanders was popular even with Libertarians and some Republicans because there was a hope of change, and a lack of economic change over a period of a generation or more can compel working-class people to become radicalised. Any change can seem better than none when you’ve been suffering and your needs have been ignored by the government for most of your life.
If the candidate the DNC chooses during every Presidential election is projected to be strong enough to win the popular vote in general elections, how can there be any valid justification for the DNC choosing their own candidate during the primaries? Wouldn’t it benefit the Democratic party to find out who people would most likely turn up to vote for in the general elections? Primaries should be risk-free and offer an actual choice of candidates. Yet these primaries were being treated like general elections, with a “milquetoast neoliberal centrist” (as Professor Cornel West referred to Biden) being cast by the DNC. Choices made from fear or greed or the threat of something to fear or be greedy about tend to backfire. At this point, some of you might be exasperated with me for “relitigating” the 2016 and 2020 primaries. Believe me, there’s a reason why it’s coming up again. If this pattern of primary election manipulation happens in 2024, that will be the end of democracy as we know it.
Electoral College Reform Will be Essential
As for voting, it’s not that our elections were fair before, but at least governors would have the final say about electoral votes in their states during general Presidential elections. The supreme court will make every effort to remove that gubernatorial safeguard. The electoral college itself is enshrined in the institution and has racist, controlling origins. It was a failsafe to ensure that slave owners could assert their rights over the people they stole and not lose their “right” to own human lives to the beliefs of northern states that favoured abolition. The electoral college was never a fair system and unfortunately, it hasn’t been changed for the hundreds of years that it’s existed.
The electoral college continued to take away freedom from people who were enslaved and now it’s about to take away our freedom, too. It’s a racist institution, through and through. It is likely that we will soon be saying goodbye to any actual elections unless we can abolish the electoral college. And when I say to look to the experts, I also mean those with experience. Hear the people whose people were enslaved, and whose lands were stolen from them. Listen to those who have existed without freedom in this country for hundreds of years and have been warning that the system is coming for us, too. We know that time has arrived. Why is this happening now? When the powers that be see public opinion turning towards fairness it knows its reign that was built solely upon corruption is being threatened. And by fairness, I mean anti-racist sentiment, the BLM movement, gay rights, a rise in calls for trans rights, and equal pay for women. Who will the state have left to control if we actually get the more fair and equal society that most of the public and the overwhelming majority of younger generations are calling for?
Right now, the old arm of the system is struggling to find who they can control in order to keep an outdated, expired way of life going and cling to power for as long as possible. Power can be not only habitual but also addictive. So they will eventually come for all of us if that’s what it takes to maintain control. One of the first ways will occur when it comes to voting rights will be in the supreme court upholding Moore v. Harper, which is going to increase gerrymandering and Republican power. Another attempt to hold onto power will come in the form of reinterpreting the First Amendment. The American brand of Christianity is rife with Biblical scholars who have been interpreting the Bible for their own ends. Do you think they wouldn’t hire these Biblical mastermind manipulators to do the same with the Constitution if it suited them?
The entire system is racist to its core. More people know that now, and this awakening is being met with a dictatorial grasp for power. Every day we delay taking action ourselves, more of our rights will be taken. No one is coming to save us. This is up to us to coordinate and will depend on unity and cooperation amongst many groups. As it is, even one group can be fractured by multiple beliefs and conflicting plans of action. It will be imperative to look at what’s at stake if upcoming general strikes are going to be organised and effective. We can learn from previous successful general strikes and tactics used in other countries. While it’s not likely that enough will be accomplished in the time it takes for this court to rapidly dismantle our rights without any regard for justice, despite ironically being called “justices”, the more we act, the less they will be able to do. Since the Biden administration is looking fascism in the face and responding with a dangerous passivity, this court will do its worst. There need to be consequences and accountability for criminals who commit injustices, and this is a criminal court. Yes, the power of this administration is limited but they’re not completely powerless. There are things they could be doing. Refusing to take action is another interpretation of the Strength Reversed tarot card, at least for now.
Neutrality in the face of fascism is always dangerous. Neutrality gave implicit permission for the rise of Nazism.

The Temporary End of The First Amendment (as we know it, and I don’t feel fine about it)
The First Amendment is in grave jeopardy and there are plans underway to eliminate freedom of speech and freedom of the press, one step at a time. It will happen while we’re most distracted, whether by war or the climate or the stripping of more of our fundamental rights, or all three at once. It will be important to stay focused on freedom of speech because without that, there can be no climate striking, no striking and voting for human rights, no fair and free elections, and ultimately no other kinds of freedom at all. Freedom of speech and of the press is foundational for all other freedoms, hence why this amendment is first. the First Amendment also guarantees freedom of religion and that does not align with the goals of the theocratic majority on this supreme court.
Suppression of freedom is an insidious technique for getting away with racist and misogynistic violence. Everything we’re seeing that’s upsetting any balance of power we thought we had is rooted in hatred. Part of what’s so tragic about this is that there is a dream and to some extent a reality of multiculturalism and multilingualism that exists in America, even if it’s more noticeable in some cities than others. Recent supreme court rulings administered by Trump’s installed judges represent a cynical, misguided, outdated, and largely unwanted attempt to destroy dreams of unity. The difficulty in obtaining this dream is in the complicated history and current events of the US. How can we reconcile a society built on stolen land, making wealth from stolen people, and yet acting as a refuge for others who had their rights and opportunities taken from them elsewhere? Although when the latter happened and immigrants were more easily allowed to move to the US, this geographical shift was mainly encouraged for people emigrating from Europe. My families were some of those who arrived by ships at Ellis Island in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, escaping poverty in Southern Italy and pogroms in Eastern Europe, yet who were ultimately considered white—if not entirely immediately, definitely eventually and clearly currently. Notice how immigration restrictions tightened as people from countries outside Europe increasingly attempted to do the same once air travel became quicker and more accessible. Do not doubt that this country will go to any lengths to serve its God: a stock market that mainly benefits old white men and whose stability depends on the continued violence of white power. Also, don’t doubt that we can change that.
Strength Reversed indicates weakness and powerlessness, and the US is heading for a period of accelerated imprisonment and genocide. This system will hide behind the guise of imprisonment on false charges, much like the tactics of imprisonment without charges that have been forcefully applied by twentieth-century totalitarian regimes. Genocide and restrictions on freedom of the press in a country that holds more military power than the rest of the world put together are dangerous and guarantee unchecked human rights abuses…unless certain measures are taken soon. Social Security, Medicare, and the few other social programmes we do have are under threat of being diminished and/or abolished and will need to be actively protected to remain in place. If it was up to the majority of the people in power, they would do away with any programmes that benefit humanity because the less we have, the more they make—or so they think. Despite these and other serious concerns that connect with unhealthy states of being (Strength Reversed), the presence of the rune Sowelu in this reading suggests that this time has the potential for emotional healing.

State Rebellion
In terms of the healing offered by Sowelu and in reference to potential solutions, some states will rebel and initiate laws that are the opposite of supreme court rulings. Most of this will happen in California, New York, and then on the rest of the west coast, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and other New England states, New Mexico, Colorado, and eventually additional, mostly coastal, states, including but not limited to North Carolina. This is how we will get two extreme Americas that are far right and far left but coexisting (although not exactly peacefully!) Expect armed insurrections as there will be fighting on the streets with weapons in some regions. One thing is assured and that is drama. Major changes are what we will need to combat the climate crisis, and exercises like what we are fighting against this week in the form of these supreme court rulings are preparing us for the fight of our lives. The climate crisis is so much bigger than even a constitutional crisis. We are being trained for combat against an emergency of almost unimaginable proportions, but these exercises and the challenges to come will also be incredibly unifying. The future holds a lot of love and harmony despite all the changes we’re seeing before us. In near-future times one of the headlines will read something like the following: “Humans Have Never Been Closer”.
Constitutional Crisis Causes California Conundrum
California will particularly resist these supreme court changes, and it’s inevitable that this state will start to seem more and more like its own country every day. The GOP has campaigned for decades on freeing itself from the federal government and giving power to states, yet in the current form of this party, the opposite is happening. The GOP as it stands now is only interested in staying relevant, and their main method for achieving that end is by overthrowing the federal government so they can replace it with a dictatorship. Despite decades of sentimental musing about the sacred rights of states to do as they wish and keep the federal government weak, as soon as progressive California rebels against the authority of a regressive federal government, they will be attacked by an extreme wing of the GOP—both figuratively and literally. GOP extremists can’t afford to lose access to California’s sixth-largest economy in the world which supports less privileged states. I don’t know if this is the case but it is possible that the 2019 dream I referred to towards the beginning of this article might have something to do with this conflict. That quote from one of the two women in my dream continues to haunt me: “I never thought anything like this could happen here”. This happened after they had been attacked. Major events await California, both good and bad, triumphant and sad, beautiful and horrible, but definitely times that will be deeply studied in future American history books.
Meanwhile, expect leftists to be attacked while rights are being stripped away. Socialism and even Democratic Socialism is a threat to the wealthiest who can only continue hoarding resources for as long as they are not being asked to share. When mainstream newspaper outlets and news organisations are owned by those who have a political agenda (and they do), we will end up hearing narratives that only support the needs of the top 1% who owns these organisations. Independent journalism is growing and fighting against this but there is still a major influence of propaganda in mainstream media. It can be hypnotic and I avoid watching these shows, other than occasional clips, and read as many articles written by unbiased or less biased sources as possible.
On July 27th, 2019, @LaelaFrench asked a question of the cards on Twitter about the future of California. Here was my response in the form of a poem, inspired by the 9 of Cups Reversed:

The Show Must Go On, But Must it Go On Like This?
I have no interest in defending individual politicians who were installed by corporations. I am not going to play along. And it is a play because they were cast. It is as if a group of casting directors was asked to choose models, or at least actors who don't write their own scripts but are just willing to read them. They are not our personal friends. They are actors and models and temporary action figures who are meant to mollify us, to make us think something meaningful is getting done. Yes, they are humans with meaningful lives just like the rest of us but they are not worthy of our worship, only scrutiny, and especially at a time like this when our lives and freedom depend on the action or inaction of this administration.
Meanwhile, they haven't been given the power to do something meaningful. Even in the areas where they have, such as executive orders, they are hesitant to take action and upset a donor because then they would be taken out of power and replaced with another figurehead. They figure, better me, with my good intentions than some other politician. Perhaps they could do more while they are there, and don't out of fear that someone worse will take their place. And someone worse could, but they are all being directed by corporations so the outcome of the show wouldn't be much different. The system is broken and this year’s Pluto return has exposed these shortcomings. More details are below on the Pluto return in US politics under the headline: “US Astrology News from the Future”.
Meanwhile, expect the First Amendment to be compromised and ignored at the behest of the far-right while the Second Amendment is promoted because the Constitution will be cherry-picked according to the agendas of those in power. Part of the frustration in the aftermath of all this inefficiency is that there won’t be any one person to blame. The entire system is corrupt and has been rotted to the core with dirty money. It’s like the government is being run by a mob, but the mob is an international collective of corporations whose facade is pasted with the faces of friendly celebrities who are paid in exchange for their likeness to humanity. Models on posters and in commercials make us think that corporations are like us, but it is all an act, yet far from the fault of any one actor or politician. They are just doing their job and surviving in a vapidalist (←—meant to type “capitalist, but isn’t capitalist vapid sometimes?) society to the best of their ability, like most of the rest of us. Corporations are like television directors and it is all a big show for the world. They will cast the safest ones in the roles who have the least likelihood of upsetting the system. Then we’re told that this person, who would almost never rock the boat because they’ve been subsidised to do otherwise, is our only choice. Nothing changes and fascism continues to creep into governmental affairs. Government should be a balance between freedom and security, but our current system offers us neither safety nor freedom.

Some celebrities become known because of their talent. Others have funding and purchase PR. Have you seen some of the inane “What’s Happening” headlines on Twitter? Not the news headlines or hashtags, but the endless scroll of celebrity PR that someone was paid to write. Politicians have to purchase PR to compete with each other in a hyper-capitalist society. To worship them like celebrities or heroes when their connection to a corrupt system is collectively enabling our demise would be dangerous and self-destructive, yet our system asks this of us in the form of relentless advertising. But we don’t have to comply with capitalist expectations. Some in Congress are genuinely trying to change the system but they don’t have the power to do so and they won’t anytime soon. You can see the sincerity in the delivery of their speeches and hear the consistency in their words, but that won’t be enough to stop what’s coming. A fascist state is marching to the surface, there is neonazism at its core, and it’s a threat to all of us. Freedom of the press will definitely be suppressed, and this is when we will see Nazis most prominently marching on the streets again, not only in America but also in Europe. I wish it wasn’t so and I can only hope to be wrong about this but I have seen warnings in many dreams and in the cards about these threats. It would be better to keep mentioning it and be wrong than to stay silent and know I could have spoken up about it before it happened.
Last Call for a General Strike
Unfortunately, we won’t be able to just vote our way out of this, not when the voting system is compromised by partisan gerrymandering, voter suppression, and legalised bribery in the form of corporate lobbying. Any media source that tells you to vote harder and more is attempting to anesthetise us and delaying real action in the form of general strikes and other creative and collective strategies. Needed general strikes have been delayed because we’ve been mollified and pacified into thinking that a Democratic rule of three branches of government will save us, but that system depended on people acting in good faith which is not presently the case. Partly as a result of this delay, an actual uprising is on the horizon. Also, the strikes will not be effective unless they are coordinated, organised, widespread, and recurrent. I am not an expert on strikes so please consult with those who have more experience if you are volunteering as one of the coordinators or organisers. I will post more about upcoming strikes in my posts and on Twitter as I find out more about them. This week’s Ecuadorian strike met with success in eighteen days. What if women, BIPOC communities, and the LGBTQ2S+ community took the day off from work and shopping, including domestic work? What if we do it for more than one day, and provide support through systems like GoFundMe for those who can’t afford to take off of work? On October 24th, 1975, this happened in one day in Iceland’s “The Women’s Day Off strike”, or Kvennafrídagurinn. These successful examples demonstrate how quickly changes can happen when large, organised, persistent groups make clear demands. I am not guaranteeing it will work and we are up against a bigger threat than Iceland in the 1970s, but that just means we’ll need to make adjustments to address present circumstances.
Conditions aren’t the same and we are confronting the biggest military-industrial complex in the history of the world, so be prepared for some unique challenges. However, we have a lot to lose by not taking action but something to gain by trying. Part of what’s at stake are voting rights, which are in peril. We will lose our voting rights if radical action is not taken right away. There is no time to waste. We don’t have time to wait for another election when a rogue court has essentially hijacked and is actively overthrowing our government. This coup WILL continue and it is the opposite of freedom. A coup is a tyranny that circumvents accountability. They are intentionally paving the way for a fascist dictatorship and I am not saying this lightly. That’s literally what we are headed for by 2024. If we don’t take effective, collective actions now I predict that there will be a violent revolution and bloody uprising, and that would be beyond tragic. A general strike can be done peacefully but it has to happen quickly. Abolishing the filibuster and electoral college, codifying Roe v. Wade and other essential cases that protect human rights, expanding the court, and overturning Citizen’s United will all be essential.
If it takes 3.5% of a population to overthrow a regime, that means it could take about 270 million climate strikers to overthrow the system that’s damaging our climate. For the US population, 3.5% would be about 11,616,281 strikers (based on 2021 Census). Can 11 or 12 million adults take off of work and stop shopping until some of our rights are reinstated? There’s no certainty that 3.5% would yield the right number of minimum strikers, but it’s what we know has worked based on historical precedents. The numbers of people are greater than the people in power and people's power can turn the Strength Reversed card upright again.
Capitalist practise hasn’t brought us more freedom as Milton Friedman posited. Capitalism isn’t a system that fosters equality, either, as we have seen through the continued oppression of people of colour, women, the LGBTQ2S+ community, immigrants, and people with disabilities. Late-stage capitalism has brought us to the opposite of freedom in the form of autocracy, inequality, tyranny, and long-term, sometimes irreversible environmental destruction. The good news is that humans created this system and it can be replaced with something better. The consensus is in. It’s time for a new system. If you want to read more about the history of how we got here beginning the 1970s and starting with the dismantling of government with Regan’s first election in 1980, as well as the ways in which right-wing capitalist theory hasn’t worked for most of us, I recommend Thom Hartmann’s article, “Dear Republicans: We Tried Your Way and it Does Not Work”.
Forced Bearth
Forcing people to get pregnant against their will and then charging them with murder if they miscarry are two things a person has no control over. This literally could happen to someone who is in a coma, God forbid if they should be raped. You could be unconscious from the time of conception yet charged with murder for being assaulted. This extreme example is unfortunately inevitable and will become a case, but I’m mentioning it because it emphasises how someone could do nothing at all and have no agency whatsoever, yet receive a lifetime prison sentence for murder. A sentence where women are vulnerable to being raped repeatedly while incarcerated, where they could have another miscarriage and be charged with murder. Or, if they do not miscarry, they might die in childbirth or have the baby forcibly taken from them and funneled into the adoption system where politicians who invest in adoption agencies can make a profit. This is a totally corrupt and unconscionable system that is reckless, irresponsible, self-serving, and irredeemable in its current form.
The recent supreme court ruling is an outrageous miscarriage of justice, an intentional, cynical overreach of power, and an undeniable abuse of human rights. By the way, I will no longer be capitalising “supreme court” as they don’t deserve to be capitalised when they are already capitalising on our collective suffering and misfortune. I will save capitalisation for phrases like Taco Supreme that earn it and deserve it!
White House Lies Through Future Eyes: The Future of American History Education
In future times, I see students looking at a photo of the White House in their textbook during class and asking, “Did they REALLY call it the WHITE house? And they didn’t know their entire objective the whole time was to uphold white supremacy? IT’S IN THE NAME, PEOPLE!” These will be the voices of the students of the future. Of course, many of us are aware at this point but feel powerless to stop it. Or are we? These future students will be referring to the system of white supremacy that this nation upholds. Expecting freedom to come of a system that was founded on slave labour is a joke. Perhaps that’s why the claim of freedom has been so loud, because we can never truly be free when anyone is enslaved. I am talking about the mass incarceration system that serves as a front for continued slave labour in service of corporate power and disproportionately affects and harms Black men and their loved ones.
One of the very concerning aspects of a rise in authoritarianism combined with the world’s largest military power is that no human rights organisation is coming to save us. How can any international organisation stand against a military power that has the capability of destroying all of their countries? The situation we are in is very dangerous. At the same time, I see two Americas: one moving forward, light years ahead, and another regressing to the past. As I’ve mentioned before, there will be regional divisions. Past and future will live together in the US and it will be like two overlapping countries that don’t exactly fit together. It truly will be a war and peace of two worlds, and the phrase “war of the worlds” also comes up with this vision.
Season 1 of Celebrity Refugee
We’re about to see a spectacle of celebrity refugees. I predict a reality TV show with a title like Celebrity Refugee. Sorry, I probably shouldn’t give anyone any ideas. Some public figures who leave the United States as political tensions quickly rise will be harassed for not preventing what’s happening, but there is no one public figure to blame and it wouldn’t be ethical to attack anyone. However, fair or not, it will happen and many will flee to places like New Zealand, Europe, the UK, Mexico, South America, and South Africa when circumstances become uncomfortable enough. For some, that will be as soon as Christmas when people leave for the holidays and don’t come back, at least not for a while. Some, especially politicians, will go into hiding for a while to avoid scrutiny and responsibility. Others, such as actors and musicians, will be unable or unwilling to resist being high-profile, especially when being seen can generate continued income. Many authors and artists will also take off to live abroad while domestic conflict and public riots escalate. Yet overall, most stay, hoping for a better time or a resolution that’s just around the corner. Hope is a powerful force that rarely lessens when we’re confronted with decision-making dilemmas. Faith is a survival mechanism, but faith without realism or action can lead to ruination. That which drives us to survive can also drive us to destruction if we’re deceived by illusions.
Overall, we are in a phase that is akin to the stories of Hindu Gods Brahma and Shiva: immersed in destruction and on the brink of creation. War and death are some of the ultimate forms of destruction that currently plague our societies. Birth is the ultimate creation and even that is being controlled by the current religious fundamentalist radical extremists who forced their way into the US government by way of corporate corruption. A new world awaits us nonetheless. When Shiva dissipates, rebirth in the form of a Brahman type of revolution replaces the old world of violence, division, and separation with a new existence borne of unity and peace. Following this transformation, what can we hope for in a post-capitalist society? Perhaps there will be something closer to Democratic Socialist countries which seem like they’re living in the future while part of America is on the precipice of reliving the past.

“‘Marx, in his later years’, Saito argues, ‘was keenly aware of the destructive consequences for the environment of the capitalist regime. Saito describes the ecological crisis tendencies under capitalism using the key concept of ‘metabolic rift.’ ‘We have reached the limit of passing the buck to the future,’ Saito said, suggesting that he is an advocate of the ‘3.5 percent rule of small minorities bringing about social, economic, and political change through nonviolent protests. ‘If 3.5 percent of the population rises up nonviolently, society will change. I want to encourage action,’ Saito said”.
Based on historical strikes, the 3.5 rule means that we can enact change if enough of us are willing to get involved, and it only takes a minority to make a difference. There is no reason to do otherwise when everything is at stake.
Global Influence of American 12-Step Theory
Speaking of emotional and spiritual healing associated with Strength Reversed, recovery and spirituality will grow during this period of Piscean planetary trends. Colonising countries can collectively act like unrecovered addicts and alcoholics. Even colonisation can be an addiction. One of the ways that the “old” America will be remembered and even revered in future times is for its significant contributions to creativity, comedy, musicality, and spirituality. Yes, these phenomena have existed in every nation and culture. What we have seen in previous periods of what we now know as the United States has been far-reaching in scope and these influences will continue to shape future cultures. It is a nation that has learned to excel in PR as a survival mechanism, and now that PR is being used as a weapon to turn against its own people so we should be wary of the entertaining, mesemerising power of that force. Public relations as hidden propaganda is another political problem that will be explored in future posts.
For now, I want to focus on one of these spiritual-cultural phenomenons in the form of Twelve-Step programmes that originated in the United States. I am referring to Alcoholics Anonymous, which has unarguably helped addicts and codependents recover in every country across the world, and has been a life-saving measure for many individuals and families.
There is a political analogy to what has been happening in twentieth and twenty-first-century aggression. Within highly militaristic regimes, there are scapegoats (the poor, immigrants) who are treated like Al-Anons. Colonised countries experience a circumstance similar to Al-Anonism, in which their needs are ignored by the coloniser due to an obsession with their addition. Spiritual and physical recovery will be necessary worldwide during a period of change into a more Aquarian and Piscean age. Pisces means the meek are exalted and that’s when we’ll see the crumbling of corporations. At the same time, the spirit of Aquarius will bring power to the people. Both of these signs were prominent when AA was founded in Akron, Ohio by Bill W. and Dr. Bob.
Can the wisdom of the steps help with this political problem? The concepts say that these programmes stay out of politics, and that is for a good reason. However, by taking the principles of these steps and applying them to individual life, change and recovery are possible. Similarly, will recovery from our current political problems be possible? If someone can arrest an incurable disease, and this has been proven to be the case with spiritual solutions applied to the lives of millions of alcoholics and addicts, can the incurable state of addiction to greed which now threatens life on Earth also be arrested?
US Astrology News from the Future
Pluto, Neptune, and the End of an Old America
The US entered its first Pluto return in 246 years at 27 degrees Capricorn on February 22nd, 2022. The war in Ukraine and subsequent US involvement have coincided with this time. At the same time, Neptune has moved into 22 degrees Pisces, the opposite of where it was when Neptune was at 22 degrees Virgo at the start of World War II in 1939. Civil conflict and other forms of war could be indicated, but it would not be the same as World War II and a war could be fought at sea while Neptune is in Pisces and in airspace after Pluto moves into the final air sign Aquarius.
Pluto is a planet that represents death and rebirth, so the US is going through its biggest death and ending since the inception of its “nation”. The changes will be deep and a new country will be born. Problems will be exposed and purged and significant healing, mirrored in the tarot card of Strength and the rune Sowelu, can take place as a result of this chaos. Pluto has moved back to where it was during the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, so it is no wonder that the original documents, including the US Constitution, are being highlighted in news reports. Therefore, all of the weaknesses of these documents will become glaringly obvious. Pluto returns can be times when empires fall and are rebuilt or replaced with something else. For instance, Pluto returns occurred later in the Roman Empire, including eight years before its fall in 476 AD. While Pluto gives rise to destruction, it is subsequently accompanied by transformation, rebirth, and creation. Currently, Pluto is in Capricorn so its return to the US indicates death and rebirth that is instigated by problems related to corporate control and the suppression of economic and human rights. Excessive ambition and greed will be the downfall of the previous version of this nation that is in the process of ending. This shift brought about a potential for spiritual awakening.
Furthermore, Pluto is ruled by Scorpio, and combined with the influence of Capricorn this translates into corporate and governmental control of sexuality and reproduction. The Scorpionic aspect of Pluto unearths issues of sexual and reproductive control, which explains the attempt to regulate women’s rights, abortions, trans rights, and drag shows. The history of America is a Puritanical one, so when its deepest issues are unearthed, some of those will be related to destructive beliefs about what was considered “sinful” during seventeenth and eighteenth-century colonisation. Expect echoes of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The Scarlet Letter all over again. Those Puritanical reenactors, The Oath Keepers, are about to gain some sort of sway over conservative media narratives but that will only be temporary and backfires when comedic satire makes it clear that their group is misunderstood and therefore dismissed by the majority of Americans. Soon it might feel like being visited by time travellers from hundreds of years ago, back to the times when America was founded.
The current choices of the supreme court to unilaterally usurp our rights will be the ultimate undoing of the nation that eventually results in the opposite: the start of a more matriarchal and Indigenous-based rule (which will incidentally bring us beyond the concept of “nation”), but not for some years from now when the influence of this Pluto return starts to wane. When this Pluto return ends, however, we will start to see the seeds of a new America taking place of the old one that has existed for more than two centuries. Like the royal rule that ended in America in the late eighteenth century as a result of the Revolutionary War, the current Pluto return will end another form of rule in America—but this time, the battles are corporate and part of this war will be fought in state and international courts, through strikes, protests, counterprotests, and outside the steps of banks. While it will take years to get there, Pluto in Aquarius will bring about a new beginning and a different form of currency after 2024. Excessive corporate power will trigger the downfall of an old, decaying hierarchy that we see writhing on its deathbed now, and the birth of a new era that focuses on humanitarianism, technological space innovation, deep group friendships, and social justice. The last time Pluto moved into Aquarius was in the late eighteenth century, following the French Revolution and coinciding with the later period of the Enlightenment. Incidentally, the US Constitution and Bill of Rights were signed when Pluto was in Aquarius, so expect a revision of the Constitution or even the addition of an entirely new legal document between 2023 and 2044.

The Star, Strength Reversed, and Sowelu combine to make these exciting if challenging times, but ultimately a period that brings us towards more unification, wholeness, a deeper sense of our common humanity, and healing of wounds from long ago, particularly those related to many centuries of genocide. In terms of your own life, these cards in addition to the rune Sowelu tell a story. First, honour what inspires you with The Star, remember how meaningful you are, and don’t forget that you are needed here. You have love to give and love you’ve yet to receive. You haven’t yet met everyone who is going to love you. Focus on what you love to do with your time and on the ones who cherish and appreciate you.
Next, Strength Reversed adjacent to Sowelu in this reading speaks to a need for rest, regeneration, and healing. Nap if needed, invest in taking the time needed to dream, and focus on what makes you feel whole. Self-care will make you prepared to fight for your own and others’ rights. I am astounded by the amount of work you have put into this post. For myself, I’ve been at sea with all that’s been going on between the Supreme Court decisions and the January sixth hearings. I’m still hoping for a blue wave as I can’t believe the country could ever come back from another extreme right presidency. Trump, I believe is done, but not the harm his presidency has caused us. We can’t afford a DeSantis presidency, so I hope what has just happened spurs the masses to vote like our lives depend on it.
