News from the Future: September-October 2022 Preview
8 of Cups Reversed, Viking Rune Thurisaz Reversed
Tarot Card Reading: 8 of Cups Reversed
The card I pulled for the months of September through October is the 8 of Cups Reversed. Generally, this card affirms that the old ways aren’t working, therefore new plans might need to be made. Sometimes there is a danger in continuing with old habits, but also a temptation to keep trying in case next time might work. It can also be a card of gambling, whether literally or metaphorically, and additionally cautions against aimless wandering and repetition. The background image features water and this card is closely related to the water sign Pisces.
Viking Rune Reading: Thurisaz Reversed
Thurisaz Reversed can denote a feeling that something needs to be changed but perhaps there is a resistance to change, the timing is not right, or the next right course of action isn’t clear. In some cases, this rune will advise the seeker to pause, consider a different approach to an uncomfortable situation, or attempt to access higher wisdom through meditation.

8 of Cups Reversed
The scene featured on this card takes place at night, by the light of the moon, and a figure turns its back and leaves behind eight cups. 8 of Cups Reversed can be about uncertainty, indecision, or dissatisfaction. These states of mind can cause discomfort, but there is a purpose to being uncomfortable. Like physical pains that signal something is wrong so we can get it checked out, uncomfortable feelings can make us aware that something needs to change. Reversed, there is a question about whether or not it is in your highest interest to distance yourself from a difficulty. This card can indicate an unsatisfactory situation where there is fear of change and/or uncertainty about the consequences of moving on. When there is vacillation, there might need to be a period of contemplation to discover what all the options are before making a clear decision. This card is about wanting to move on or needing to in order to grow, but not knowing where to go yet or how to find something better.
Some of the solutions to this quandary might be pausing before making a decision, taking time for introspection (like The Hermit tarot card from last week’s reading), or giving yourself the space to search for your calling or even just the next small action to take. Sometimes the 8 of Cups Reversed can guide a querent to seek counsel, whether through an expert in the area you’re feeling indecisive about or by accessing higher wisdom through meditation.
Thurisaz Reversed
Thurisaz Reversed supports the process of taking time to make a choice, as a hasty decision could result in regret. You will know if it is imperative to act quickly, which is the case in emergency situations. However, there are circumstances when it is not necessary to be impulsive. For instance, some solutions are more effective with a group effort, so waiting until everyone is ready to move forward on a project might be more helpful than branching off on your own without informing the people you promised to work with. If working individually instead of collectively is what you are intuitively led to do, that might be the best decision for you. Nevertheless, both Thurisaz Reversed and the 8 of Cups Reversed recommend communicating a change of heart to everyone involved so you can be as upfront and honest as possible.
Many years ago, I remember being impatient about getting a project started and not wanting to wait for everyone else to be ready. I worked on my own without informing the rest of the group. When they found out that I made a decision before consulting them they were surprised and confused. I thought I was being helpful by doing all the work upfront but people might want to give their input, or perhaps they will feel belittled because you didn’t trust them to complete their part of the project. It’s no excuse and I’m responsible for my own behaviour but in understanding myself better, I have a stellium in Sagittarius which makes me more inclined to work independently. This knowledge about an astrological tendency has helped me to recognise that it will take effort for me to be cooperative in groups. In terms of tarot lessons, the 8 of Cups reminds me to speak up about my concerns if a situation isn’t working for me or needs to be adjusted in order for me to stay involved. It’s possible that a collaborative effort can be resolved once concerns are expressed. If not, that’s confirmation for me to go in a different direction, but at least then I won’t have to wonder about what could have been.
Sometimes it is difficult to gain perspective on a situation when you are in the middle of it. Contemplation and hesitation can bring increased clarity with the passage of time. In other cases, it is possible that your influence cannot be exerted over a situation so you are being forced to wait, and therefore cultivate acceptance. Upright, Thurisaz offers guidance about which path to choose and the image of this rune can be meditated on if you are seeking direction or the strength to make a decision.
World News from the Future
In world news, the 8 of Cups Reversed indicates a need to walk away from power, but also a resistance to that change. Expect world leaders to be asked to step down but refuse to go. This resistance will engender a counterresistance that results in mass protests and, in some countries, unrest. All of these changes as depicted in the media will help us to envision what needs to be done and what can happen in this upcoming, critical phase of climate action that will be necessary for survival.
The Power of People Working Together
There is absolutely so much that can be done and every effort should be made to stop further warming. It is also imperative to recognise the truth of where we are at this point. I’m not a scientist and don’t have the answer to this, but I think it’s something we should all be concerned about and investigating. This catastrophe has the potential to kill and displace billions of people. Why isn’t this danger being broadcast on a daily basis in mainstream media? No one is entirely safe, not even billionaires. When billions are affected, the few billionaires will not be able to shield themselves from the consequences of not volunteering to help sooner. Most large corporations will spend everything possible on PR in an attempt to maintain a heroic image but most of us will know it’s lies and they’re just trying to survive.
Why should anyone be required to work for someone else to survive? We were born with the right to survive. Our birth is evidence of our right to exist. Nature gave us life and no human being the right to take that away. How can anyone think they are more powerful than nature and demand you give them most of your time in exchange for being able to keep the space of your body on this Earth? The notion of a body belonging to anyone other than the one who inhabits it is ludicrous and illogical. No person can claim it, that’s ridiculous. Yet isn’t ownership of someone’s time with the implied threat of death as a result of non-compliance everything our society is built upon and believes to be reasonable and true? Owners of corporations are treated as owners, and by extension of this treatment, might feel entitled to “own” parts of the Earth. Ownership is illusory and owners’ identities as such are not immortal. Trying to purchase the Earth, or to own any part of it, is a patriarchal way of thinking. Leo Tolstoy’s short story “How Much Land Does a Man Need?” punctuates the irony of land ownership. Owning creation extends to an expectation of ownership of women, who are creators and give life like the Earth itself. The need to control life can originate from feeling out of control in one’s own life and ultimately fearful of death.
Regardless of the origins or motivations of this tendency, there is no relevance in requiring a person to work to survive. By claiming someone needs to work for another person or a system created by a group of people in order to continue living, those people and the systems they invented are playing God, playing games, and playing a role. The capitalist play we’ve been acting in for centuries is changing into another scene and that’s the shift we see and feel. People are waking up and realising that our work system is staged and doesn’t have to be this way. What if everyone did the things they like to do? Life would probably work out better. People would be free to pursue their passions which would result in more productivity, especially when there isn’t pressure to produce anything. Being forced to fit into the roles we’re cast in by elite directors who don’t represent the actors they direct is oppressive, especially when the only other choice is death. It’s a morbid play and doesn’t have to be that way. There would be less destruction and more creation in a time of freedom that allows for and encourages creativity. Everything is changing and future endeavors will need to adapt to the climate. Women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities are already vulnerable to violence and exploitation, even under the best of circumstances. Global warming exponentially amplifies that vulnerability, which is one more reason among many to end the fossil fuel industry immediately and without delay.
We all need something to believe in, but that something isn’t going to be someone. It isn’t a politician in power or those holding the most wealth because they aren’t taxed enough. No political party is the solution to changing and healing this system. The power will come from groups of people, including those who are normally societally dismissed: young groups who are unemployed and underemployed to no fault of their own, people without homes, nonviolent individuals with criminal records for nonviolent offenses but who are nonetheless ostracised and kept impoverished through hiring and other discrimination, working people, retired people on a fixed income, everyone with disabilities and health issues, and all who want a better world. This has to be a movement that goes beyond class. Everyone is welcome and all of your help is needed, although not all will want to join. Late-stage capitalism is on its way out, dying like someone in the late stages of a disease. The confusion and exposure of corruption that we’re seeing literally is that system dying out. I wrote more about the transition from a late-stage capitalist to a post-capitalist society in a poem, “Workers Wake to a New Day”, which will be published by next week on Substack.
Astrology, Personality, and the Future of the Ultra-Rich
Of all the prominent billionaires, Elon Musk will be vulnerable to change because he has a particular concern about the way others perceive him. The mechanism by which we seek out social acceptance isn’t set to the same degree in everyone. You won’t find it in Jeff Bezos who exhibits a controlling side of the sign Capricorn (note that there are unenlightened tendencies in every sign so this does not apply to every Capricorn). Contrastingly, Musk is like a hypersensitive version of the sign Cancer and this makes him porous to other people’s opinions. An interesting note about this paragraph is that I didn’t know Bezos and Musk’s signs but they seemed to me like a Capricorn and Cancer. After I wrote this paragraph, I looked up their charts and it turns out that their sun signs happen to be Capricorn and Cancer, so this assessment is congruent with their actual signs, not just their personalities.
This is not my personal opinion of either of them and the last people we should be hoping to get help from are billionaires, who should be taxed until they are no longer billionaires and certainly not subsidised by the governmentas they now are in the United States. Nonetheless, the cards predict the following trajectory: Musk will be erroneously portrayed as a climate hero with layers of PR and Bezos ends up being nowhere to be found when crowds come around to hound him down. They’ll both go into hiding but Musk’s need for approval can’t resist the adulation he gets from positive public opinion. He’s also been given a lot of praise and has grown used to that trend. While the story doesn’t end the same for every billionaire most of the more prominent wealth holder figures will be protected by the US government. In fact, the government has been positioning itself to stop helping people by giving tax breaks to the wealthy and to churches for years, even prior to Trump.
The plan behind these handouts was to privatize government through a quid pro quo with cooperative CEOs and churches. What we ended up with is a minority-ruled government constructed of private corporations, extremist evangelical religious zealots, and almost nothing left for social services, the poor, or the vulnerable—the very people a government should be designed to protect and support. The marriage of the American evangelical Christian cult sector and corporate America has resulted in the business of religion having rights above and beyond life itself. On a similar note, the push for forced birth comes from a place of white supremacy, and it is also an insidious preemptive method for indoctrinating children into a cult from an early age. Every problematic system that is not mature enough to take responsibility for its mistakes will seek a group to blame as a way to dodge accountability. If people don’t stop asking questions about what they’ve done wrong (and every group will get something wrong at some point), more outside groups will be targeted. This will soon play out in an unfortunate way with an attack on the LGBTQ2S+ community by claiming that their marriages are invalid and by extension attempting to take custody of their children which would be a horrible tragedy.
Additionally, and historically, there will continue to be a targeting of not only women, the LGBTQ2S+ community, BIPOC individuals, and people living on poverty wages, but also anyone of a religion outside of Christianity, particularly Muslims and Jews. Jewish tradition has acknowledged multiple genders for thousands of years, and is pro-abortion when it is in the interest of a mother’s health, well-being, or needs. These beliefs and the beliefs of other religions are a threat to the nationalist Christian order which seeks to control, so expect Jews to be increasingly targeted in a way that mirrors pogroms of the past. I wish it wasn’t so but sometimes it is more productive to warn than to comfort. The strategy used by current neofascists of depicting Jews and gay people as “groomers” was a tactic used by Nazis in Germany to brainwash the population into giving their party control in the 1930s and 1940s. This is very dangerous rhetoric that is used to justify genocide and to gain public favour, this dissuading most people from defending innocent victims of fascist tactics.
We have historical knowledge that can help prevent genocide from happening again. Encouraging critical thinking is an education that might have to take place online because it is not always taught in schools, where children and teenagers are trained to comply, they are rewarded for obedience, and questioning is discouraged. Education that lacks in the encouragement of critical thinking and questioning results in a populace that is vulnerable to fascism and genocide, which is why there are politicians in America who are banning books and trying to control the curriculum. An informed populace is more likely to fight against injustices that are perpetrated by those who seek power for power’s sake.
In terms of gay rights, the 8 of Cups indicates that there will be a period of time when this injustice can be averted in certain states such as California and there will also come a time when we see cases such as “California vs. The Supreme Court” in which the state will posit that their “federal interests”, such as those included in the Constitution, are being compromised. However, conflicts and legal battles will continue even when those rights are temporarily upheld by the state court system. Keep in mind that this increase in oppression is not forever but the current authoritarian minority's attempt to control will last for years.
Back to the billionaires: remember the dream I shared with you last week about a line of children waiting for a toy from someone playing Santa Claus? I hesitated to say it as but I saw it at the time as Musk. At first, it was like this figure was an amalgamation of multiple billionaires, about five of them, then the image of the face looked more like Musk. Most likely, they will try to promote campaigns of supposed generosity in an attempt to win public favour, perhaps more from him than the others. I don’t see an absolute reformation of the ultra-wealthy unless there are laws requiring that they change their habits, such as taxing or restricting the use of private jets.
A self-aware Cancer has the potential to use their sensitive abilities to empathise with and help others, a spiritually-inclined Leo can utilise communicative abilities to bring awareness to causes, and a Capricorn who has worked on themselves is capable of translating their organising abilities into effective actions that benefit large groups of people. When someone doesn’t face many consequences for their actions there isn’t as much motivation to invest time in personal growth. Yes, it can and does happen, but that temporal expenditure just isn’t as likely when someone experiences a combination of excessive privilege and decreased accountability. On a more comprehensive level, the problem is a system that doesn’t legally obligate someone to take the most beneficial actions for everyone involved, and in some cases rewards detrimental behaviour. For instance, the U.S. government offers a tax deduction for the purchase of private jets if they are used for business purposes, and this needs to change for the sake of the environment. Of course, most would take advantage of the systems that benefit them, which is why there need to be laws that preserve the environment and species that cannot speak up for or protect themselves.
What I do envision is that increased pressure due to climate conditions will make many billionaires want to appear helpful. If you can humble one person into taking productive action that will create competition for others in their social sphere. We know this can be the case based on Musk and Bezos’ space shuttle endeavours along with Richard Branson, another Cancer whose proximity to Leo gives him an appreciation for being seen and applauded. If a billion people blame one billionaire for their demise that makes that person vulnerable. No wonder they’re building spaceships to escape. An uprising following irreversible warming is inevitable. However, don’t count on them actually helping. They’re as lost as some of our leaders, as humanly fallible as any of us, and no one person should be looked to for solutions to problems that involve many people, let alone literally everyone. They have the protection of and quid pro quo with the largest military-industrial complex in the world so most of them do not have enough motivation to take action. We are on our own, but the faster we act, the better the outcome.
A Collective Perspective
Fortunately, there are many more of us than there are world leaders and holders of mass wealth. Last week, I wrote about UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ reference to the term “collective suicide”. While that’s a powerful description, it’s actually not collective suicide if most of us don’t want this climate crisis and wouldn’t choose it in exchange for luxuries. We know the value of continued life, which exceeds all possible resources we could accrue in one lifetime put together. Rather than suicide, it’s ecocide, genocide, and perhaps mass murder that’s being committed by a small group who perpetuate fossil fuel production for short-term gain. I am talking about the fossil fuel industry which has deceived the public for decades. This small group might be suicidal, or at least lacking in foresight, but that's not true for the majority of humanity. Most people over the course of human history have chosen life and don’t intentionally or knowingly bring harm to others because if they did, we wouldn’t have made it this far. Our presence on this Earth for so long is evidence that human nature fights to live and is cooperative and loving enough to support others in living and thriving, too. A few sociopathic leaders should not be allowed to determine the future for the rest of us, who are mostly gentle and seeking survival. While the system is designed to make us seem powerless, that’s changing because we’re organising more all the time. So many of us want to live, be healthy, and see others living happily, healthily, and well as well. When we awaken those Aquarian impulses of collectivity and connectivity, we are capable of accomplishing a lot together.
Coping With the Climate Crisis
I believe we are at a point where new theories about the meaning of life are being and will continue to be developed as a result of our encounter with the climate emergency. These theories will be connected to experiential attempts at survival like we’ve never encountered before and will offer a complexity of thought that transcends the binary argument of optimism versus pessimism.
It’s not for me to say how you should or shouldn’t cope with the climate crisis. I can share what’s worked for me so far, and perhaps those strategies will change over time as I adapt along with everyone else. Take what you like and leave the rest. Meditation has been integral to feeling better and staying focused. So has mindfulness, and by mindfulness, I don’t mean not thinking about the future. On the contrary, being mindful can reduce worries and clear mental space which makes me more focused on solutions and also preserves my energy so that I can apply those solutions to actions. Speaking of applications, one of the other ways that I cope is by focusing on being of service. If I am helping I don’t have the time or energy to be self-pitying. That’s how I know that when I am feeling sorry for myself, the answer is to help someone else. Then two people can feel better.
Speaking of gratitude, appreciation is another coping mechanism that has worked for me during times of crisis. If I can feel grateful for this moment of being alive, under any conditions, I will be able to feel better no matter what the external circumstances entail. Obviously, maintaining a grateful state of mind can become more challenging under extreme conditions which means that sometimes I have to take my time, ask myself questions, or search more deeply to find the gratitude. If I can’t think of something I can always fall back on the realisation that life itself is a privilege that outweighs the alternative. The opportunity to be alive at all is more than what I had before I appeared as who I am right now. This lifetime is a unique version of the human story for all of us.
There’s a reason you’re here, and you probably have more than one higher purpose. If you think about it, there’s no other time in history that you would have been more needed than now. Since fossil fuels need to be stopped in a short period of time to prevent the temperature rise from becoming irreversibly unmanageable, whatever you can do to combat that will be helpful, needed, appreciated, and important. That’s the final and most important way of coping with the climate crisis—becoming a climate activist. I can’t think of a higher calling for this time period. Being in the Resistance against Nazis in World War II was a calling, and some had to set aside other ambitions and careers to do what was right and critically needed.
While there are other positive actions that can be taken in support of the environment, all of those other solutions put together will not be enough to prevent further global warming unless we end the fossil fuel industry. Fossil fuels are responsible for up to 89% of carbon emissions. Phasing out fossil fuels by 2040 or even 2030 will not be fast enough. Imagine next summer being hotter than this one, knowing that this summer is already too hot and those dangerous temperatures are returning. Every year fossil fuels go on being produced, those summers will get hotter and more lands will become uninhabitable. The hotter it gets, the more glaciers melt, and the higher the sea level will rise. The sooner we act, and the more of us who get involved, the more of this beautiful planet and experience of being alive that we will save. This contemplation about the future brings me to my recent dream…
Future News Dream Journey: “America at Sea”
I had a dream on July 22nd that I was at sea alone on a boat, perhaps five or more years into the future. Four large ships passed by and I was delighted to see them. My boat was small and I took a nap near the edge of it, resting my head on a pillow while watching the last ships pass by. When I woke up from a dream within the dream, the ships were gone and I was far from land. I noticed people far from me, attempting to be rescued from the sea. I was farther from the land than I’d ever been before, or so it felt. I was alerted to new dangers through a radio system that was like a far-reaching loudspeaker. While I was not in immediate danger, it occurred to me that this sea had lower depths than before, which appeared to be due to a rise in the sea level. I knew that if I fell no one would be able to rescue me, not out of a lack of wanting to but due to a decrease in human forces. It reminded me of my visit to Loch Ness in Scotland, where the loch looked dark, which is interesting because I had this dream on July 22nd and a clue to the mystery of Loch Ness based on a fossil discovery was just published in the news today, on July 26th.
Suddenly in my dream, the waters rose, like waves in the middle of the ocean that are prompted by a gust of wind. I held onto the silver edge of the otherwise wooden boat and was carried to land where I could see a station. This place felt like America, not far from New York but somehow near the South. It’s like the geography changed and there wasn’t as much of the South anymore. Had it gone underwater, or separated from New York? I approached the station which was a small, wooden structure akin to a toll booth. A man inside this tiny booth was taking identification papers from the water travellers. Once I finished standing in line, I went to visit a friend in the dream and then journeyed to a hotel, led there by two ancestors. The part about my friend and ancestors was related to my own life and therefore I do not count it as part of the predictive elements of the dream, so I will end this part of the dream journey here for now. And no, these dreams of being at sea that I’ve been having for many years are not a fantasy. Not only do they have some of the predictive qualities I’ve detailed in other articles, but I get motion sickness so sailing isn’t something I’d be seeking out!
Could the future be like this, where we’ll be travelling on water more than in other ways? Will we see an altered American landscape, whether literally, or figuratively, or both? The prequel to “Future News Dream Journey: America at Sea” will be published on Substack next week under the title: “Adventure to the Future I: Predictive Dreams and Future Life Progressions”.
Climate Action Now With Real Zero
Net zero is not zero, and the concept is being misused by self-serving polluters and governments to evade responsibility. Additionally, the timeline is just far away enough that politicians can avoid accountability because most of them will be out of office by 2040 or 2050. Carbon offsets are climate indulgences that help to alleviate guilt but don’t remove emissions and add up to more greenwashing and critical delays. The notion of a carbon offset is dangerous because purchasing these might make someone think they’re doing enough to make up for certain actions when they are not, which makes it tempting to do nothing else.
So what can be done? For one, real zero would actually stop carbon emissions and that should be the goal—that is if the goal is to survive and cause no harm. Even if someone is apathetic about what happens now, survival has to be pursued in the interest of all future species who cannot speak up for themselves as they do not exist yet. Taking actions that support the survival of all species is the only moral choice. There is no grey area when it comes to extinction.
Moreover, there are limits to how much the public will be willing to accept in the interest of preserving our future and preventing extinction. However, there is also a time limit on every climate goal which translates to an ever-increasing, cumulatively building urgency to take action. Columnist John Harris posits some of these questions, in a July 24th op-ed entitled “Berating Climate Sceptics Isn’t Enough – Disruptive Protest Now Seems the Only Way Forward” as published in The Guardian:
For the moment, I don’t think many people need to be thinking very much about particular parties or politicians. What we surely need to focus on is the deep attachment to fossil fuels still locked into our economy and political system, and how to help the movements that definitely want to end it: Extinction Rebellion (XR), Insulate Britain, Just Stop Oil and the other forces that clearly understand the unspeakable gravity of the moment. This comes down to a question that still does not intrude on politics nearly enough: as these groups take the most direct kind of action, do you support them? And if – or, rather, as – the climate emergency deepens and the awful gap between politics and the sheer scale of what we are faced with only widens, what will you think if their actions take new, ever-more disruptive forms?
“There’s no need for hope…we say that people, we must have hope, but even if there’s no hope we must do everything we can. Even if there’s no hope. The climate crisis is so urgent that we need to do everything we can, right now”. —Greta Thunberg, 21 October 2018
People need hope, and there is hope in taking action. I don’t have all the answers and I’m learning more as we all experience this changing time together, but I can say from my experience that activism takes away my fears about the future and gives me the space to enjoy life. That doesn’t mean I’m never afraid, just that it goes away when I get involved in working with other climate activists, even in the smallest ways. Helpfulness is not only connective but also transformative, and a new world can more easily be envisioned when action is being taken. Now is the time for telling new stories, imagining what is possible, and taking every measure necessary to make those dreams come true.
Preview: Themes in News From the Future: 2022-2023
House and Garden News: Look for news reports that reflect themes of adaptability, resourcefulness, and a “wait and see approach”. Stories about electrical outages with an application of creative solutions that results in new developments and inventions. Gardening will take on a new dimension of importance during this period and in many years to come.
Travel News: Expect an exploration of travel alternatives, an emphasis on the importance of offering other options besides cars and planes, and a new romanticising about the joys and benefits of train travel. The 8 of Cups Reversed signifies signs of a lifestyle slowing down.
Food News: New shows and newer versions of older ones will highlight the creativity of recipes that adapt to fewer imports and maximise local resources, which brings a return to reverence for the histories and traditional cultures of local lands. There are already historical cooking shows, some of which feature characters who act as narrators and educators, such as Early American and The Victorian Way on the English Heritage channel. Others focus on educating about the past from the point of view of a contemporary perspective, such as Tasting History with Max Miller. perspective Expect (or create!) more shows like these, along with creators like Jack Monroe who demonstrate how to save money on cooking will become increasingly popular. I’m sure there are many more historical cooking shows I haven’t discovered yet that demonstrate the no-waste future of cooking that borrows from traditions of the past.
US News from the Future
US News from the Future is bound to be met with challenges when the 8 of Cups Reversed is applied to predictions for this period. There will be injustice and unfairness leading up to the midterm elections. Citizens will be hypervigilant and there is an emotional component to the small but well-funded fascist insurrection that’s occurring from within the government. According to Thurisaz Reversed, part of the spiritual journey in this phase of US News is to look at these injustices as an extreme call to action.
There is a reason why this is occurring in a country that has increased military power. War is on the rise, especially global conflict that will be a reaction to the climate crisis. Therefore, there needs to be a call to resistance from within a powerful empire so that once these wars amplify, there will be training and preparation for an anti-war, pro-peace, highly environmentally supportive movement. The US will be a cause of crises but it also carries the potential to inspire solutions to the same emergencies it helped to create. In other words, this region has used PR to implement destruction but that same PR, if redirected by a group of creative minds who act with integrity, can be used to combat its more pernicious forces.
Q. “What do the cards see as the next steps for the Democratic Party? Also, what will happen to the Republicans?”
A. Based on the presence of The Hermit in a tarot card reading I posted a couple of weeks ago, introspection and increased awareness about the systems that surround us are on the rise. According to a recent poll in the New York Times, “In the survey, 94 percent of Democrats under the age of 30 said they would prefer a different presidential nominee". New voters who turn eighteen by the 2024 elections are even less inclined to be supportive of Biden as the Democratic candidate. Perhaps this would have been helped with student loan forgiveness or by taking action on the climate crisis. There is still time to do as much that possibly can be done, at least with executive orders that don’t need Congressional approval. According to a July 21st, 2022 article in The Week, the pied piper strategy is a dangerous, risky technique employed by party strategists, whereby they directly fund far-right candidates whom they believe will be easier to defeat. Since this reading includes the 8 of Cups Reversed tarot card, there will be indecision and confusion about which candidates to run in the 2024 elections. More specifically, it looks like a candidate is unable to continue in the race and is replaced by another. Yes, today’s reading covers September through October, but it also extends beyond that period. Additionally, those two months precede the November midterms and the outcome of the midterms will determine possible candidates who will run in the next presidential election.
Failure of Bailouts from a Future Perspective
In future times, the point of view about the current economic system in the US and some other countries will be that our bailout economy by the state has bolstered the myth of free market capitalism as a successful methodology. If the state hadn’t bailed out failing banks and corporations, the economic state in the U.S. would be somewhat different today. Rather than the state collecting taxes to support the needs of the people, the state collects taxes from people who are then forced to fund banks and corporations, while mostly being forced to live in poverty themselves. We are making sacrifices for banks and corporations that don’t benefit us in most cases and cause unnecessary suffering in others.
In terms of an anti-poverty movement and economic revolution, protests and marches aren’t enough, as we have seen that capitalism can go on despite these organised events. Strikes make more of a difference, but another tactic that will be used in overturning a capitalist culture is the return to a barter economy as I alluded to in a 2021 post that recalls recurring “dreams of 24-hour thrift shops operating on a future voucher system”. This notion of a future trade economy was predicted in James Redfield’s 1993 book The Celestine Prophecy.
Anti-War Escalation in America
Expect an attempt at military recruitment followed by a draft after a shift in power, not within the time frame of this post (September to October 2022), but later. There will be a gradual huge drop in recruits which threatens the power of a military-industrial complex. Most of Gen Z will not be interested in war and humanity is evolving beyond acceptance of bloodshed and violent aggression. This is not to mention the many others in every generation who have turned against the concept of combat as a solution to any of our problems. What has violence ever solved, and doesn’t war only create new issues rather than fix old problems? The sensibilities of this new era are non-violent and pacifism will be ever-on the rise. Any attempts at a draft will be resisted and social media and organising will help with this. As a result, a trend towards robot soldiers and advancements in long-range missiles will be employed by the US military.
Once countries have robots fighting robots, the point of engaging in any physical conflict whatsoever will be deeply questioned. Robots against robots? These military powers might as well fight out their disagreements through a reality show featuring robotic actors or a robot Olympics competition. Some of the near-future armed conflicts will be used as a distraction from the changing climate so it will be imperative to stay focused on what is most important: maintaining as stable of a climate and environment as possible in the interest of every future generation of all species.

Future News for You
The 8 of Cups Reversed encourages trying a new approach to get a different result. Similarly, Thurisaz Reversed indicates that this is a beneficial period for exploring new ideas and subsequent actions. Thurisaz Reversed can suggest reaching out to those who have gone before you so you can be exposed to experienced perspectives and apply them to a currently confusing situation. The 8 of Cups Reversed combined with Thurisaz Reversed points to a time when there will be a chance to make a new choice that might not have been available or noticeable to you before. Instead of going back to an old way of life, this card and rune stone suggests that adventures can transpire when you consider a new approach, which might range from a radical departure from your old ways to something slightly different. Overall, this is an opportune time to consider where you want to be next, trace your steps back from that point to where you are now, and make small plans of action that will take you to another kind of world.

Thank you for reading this article! A prediction that I forgot to mention is that of partial student loan cancellation by executive order in the US, perhaps $10,000 and possibly accompanied by a required income threshold. It wouldn't be enough but it's gradually going in the direction of more cancellation. I think that this administration has been waiting until shortly before the midterm elections to enact certain policies and executive orders so that they can strategically maximise the effectivity of each action. Critically, part of this action could happen in October. The reason I came up with $10,000 is because of a number that was mentioned during a predictive dream I had on July 16th. I will publish more details about that dream during the second week of August on Substack, under the title: "Adventure to the Future I: Predictive Dreams and Future Life Progressions".
When I wrote, "People need hope, and there is hope in taking action", what I meant was that hope without action is not useful. Expecting positive change without taking action in the presence of an emergency would be delusional. However, we can act in order to feel the hope which we seek. The only helpful form of hope when survival is threatened is that which comes from action, and actions towards ending the fossil fuel industry are possible right now as long as we organise and coordinate with one another. Therefore, hope can be acquired and nurtured through actions like getting involved in climate striking, general strikes, resistance, and more. If you haven't already follow @ExtinctionR and @JustStop_Oil on Twitter for more details on how to get involved.
