2 of Pentacles Reversed

What is more important, the coins in his field of vision or the people who are approaching him?

Pentacles are ruled by Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn) and signify practical matters. This card can come up when the querent, or seeker of answers, feels overwhelmed or overcommitted. The Two of Pentacles Reversed offers suggestions about how to get things back into balance. In its reversed position, it is a card about unmanageability (Two of Pentacles Reversed) in which the coins and hat appear to be at risk of falling. There are hints in the card itself as to how to make one’s practical life balanced and therefore manageable again. Once these suggestions that are hidden in the meaning of the card have been carried out, it will be possible to achieve an increased level of organisation and create more time for focusing on health or self-care. More time for self-care means more time to care about others, represented by the ones embarking on a visit by means of this card’s ships.

If the hints in this card’s images are followed, balance can be rediscovered and the card symbolically becomes upright again, at least in the consciousness of your own inner work.

On a more universal level and in relation to World News From the Future, this card in its reversed position portends an upcoming overturning of an economic system. The waning of royal power and pageantry will be just one dramatic manifestation of the fall of late-stage capitalism and the end of colonialism. Capitalism will be looked back on as a religious cult. The worship of a God of Money will seem bizarre to people born in a post-capitalist period. Money is a made-up concept that is represented in physical form (pentacles) to make it seem natural, yet even in its physical form, its meaning and value require human belief. As of now, money is both abstract and intellectual (Air signs) and tangibly physical (Earth signs). As monetary exchange becomes less and less physical, and therefore increasingly invisible, it will become more and more obvious that money is not synchronous with reality or even necessary for livability.

“The Apocalyptic Triptych: Bolsonaro, Trump, and DeSantis”

One of the continued news stories in the next week will be the intractable refusal of Bolsonaro’s right-wing followers to accept Lula’s victory. Senator Bernie Sanders predicted this event in August, 2022:

It isn’t the first time Sanders has accurately documented predictions in speeches and interviews about future U.S. and world political events, sometimes years or decades in advance. Is this intuition, political prescience based on experience, or both? I don’t know, but some people are visionaries and have a heightened gift of foresight even if they don’t think of themselves as technically “psychic”.

This is a repeat of the January 6th incident that was instigated by Trump in which his followers were encouraged to storm the Capitol building. The situation in Brazil will end differently and more violently as it will be taken up again in another location at another point. It will be an important story to follow because of what is at stake: the survival and support of the Amazon, which Lula will support and fascists will attempt to avert with a more riotous attempted coup of the newly elected Brazilian government.

The prefix in progressive is “progress” and anyone who is happy with what they’ve been given in life has the potential to feel threatened by progress. Conservative politics can attract those who are already benefitting from the status quo and fear taking the risk of losing those benefits in a new era. This struggle between tradition and sociocultural advancement can be seen throughout history, currently in the monarchy, and through trios that stick together and pool their political resources which is what we’re seeing in the alliance of Bolsonaro, Trump, and DeSantis. They are not the only ones but they are especially visible right now, were recently powerful, and are literally gathering in Florida for misogynist trysts on how to thwart the egalitarian changes that are taking place in the world. They will not win in the long run but damage will be done along the way. Some of that damage in the form of climate destruction, particularly with what Bolsonaro has done by selling out the Amazon for his own personal gain, will be irreparable.

The 2 of Pentacles Reversed means that money is at stake even more than power, although it could be argued that they are connected as more power can promote access to additional funding. Someone is waiting to be paid. The recent elections and change in government bring large corporations that are content to bulldoze down to the last rainforest to light. These entities were counting on Bolsonaro’s win and now they are desperate for the cash they came to depend upon, which is blood money paid for by meaningful, irreplaceable Indigenous lives who are on the frontlines. Eventually, the loss of rainforests will be paid for by the blood of future generations. Leaders who abused their power will eventually go away but the drama and damage they caused will continue throughout this year and beyond. To be continued…

Along with the decline of capitalism will come the decline of the monarchy. Hierarchy in general will be questioned and challenged. This will be most visible in England at first, as it already is now, to be followed by other countries with monarchies. I predicted this on 18 September 2017:

Whether or not Harry had published his autobiography Spare, this decline would have happened (maybe just not quite as quickly). As you can see, predictions from five years ago were already pointing to the events of today as being fated. Harry is from a time when mental health was becoming less stigmatised and the ability to choose one’s family (or find a chosen family in friends) was becoming more socially acceptable, at least to his and younger generations. He is merely reflecting the times and providing a mirror from which we can look at our own families and systems of work to explore the roles we play. From there, we can decide if we want to play the roles we were born into, or the ones we play at work, and decide if it matches our authentic selves or if it’s time to write a new script. As much as he has tried to escape from the intergenerational show business into which he was born, Harry is playing the role of someone who departs from centuries of tradition in a bigger yet still similar way to some of us. At the same time, he will be seen by the future public as finding a genuine role as his true self in a way that most other royals, with some exceptions, haven’t done.

Q&A: “Following the publication of Spare, what happens next for Charles and Camilla, Harry, Meghan, and the British Royal Family?”

According to the 2 of Pentacles Reversed, the coffers will be overturned and this is going to be an expensive ride for the British Royal Family. This is not Harry’s doing. The truth would have come out in the end, whether he spoke up or not. Many future op-eds will conclude that his interview was genuine and he was telling the truth from his point of view.

Much of this was caused by Camilla twisting narratives to repair her considerably damaged reputation. It will not pay off well for her in the end. Charles stood by and allowed this to happen, justifying to himself that he owed it to Camilla after being the cause of her wrecked reputation. The 2 of Pentacles Reversed speaks to how these problems, partly of Charles and Camilla’s own making, will overwhelm its system and prove to be costly.

A monarchical system was suited to times of hierarchy, colonialism, and capitalism. As those systems are challenged, every form of hierarchy will be questioned—including family. It makes sense that a family hierarchy that also represents societal hierarchy would be called into question, exposed, and forced to change in order to stay relevant. Monarchy is a form of theatre that models a supposedly ideal family. Revelations about dysfunction in a cast that has an implied job of modeling the ideal family are a threat to this centuries-old, long-running, expensive, yet enduringly popular play. Nearly everyone has to be recast in order for the show to go on. The time for the script to be rewritten will be soon.

The press has a lot on Camilla that they will not reveal until it benefits them. I think Charles is going to get pressure from multiple sides (as well as the public and the press) to step down. It is the press and then the public that demand the church investigate so even the story of the church connects back to the press. The tabloid and even some mainstream press is will exploit public discontent over economic instability in multiple ways.

At the same time, the royal family will retaliate through lies and manipulation, exaggerating Harry’s mental health issues and suggesting he is “delusional”, which will be seen through as untrue by most of the public. The future consensus in looking back on this event will be that Harry was sincere in his 60 Minutes interview, no matter how opinions may differ regarding the formal means he used for telling the truth to the public. Overall, he will be seen as continuing Diana’s legacy of being vulnerable about her own shortcomings while revealing the truth about the shortcomings of powerful systems. It will also be clear that Harry’s campaign was successful in taking some of the blame and pressure off of Meghan by taking it on himself and leaving some of the rest for his family to resolve.

The truth would have come out in the end and the monarchy as we knew it before would be coming to an end, whether Harry chose to speak up or not. In future news, the opinion will move towards the following narrative about the publication of Spare and the Sussex Netflix deal: the changes on the timeline of inevitable monarchical fall have simply been expedited. It is the world that is changing even if the spotlight is on one individual for now as the supposed harbinger of this transformation of traditions. Those who speak the truth about outdated systems are simply changing sooner than some of the rest of us.

“The Karma of Camilla”

Her silence is a trait that goes along with her assigned acting role of the traditional, obedient wife. The more Camilla fights this inevitable change the more it works against her and contributes to her unpopularity. Camilla will be portrayed in the press as scheming and manipulative even though this is exaggerated as are many of these stories. However, it is karmic and she will be hounded and reviled by the press in an amplified way because of the ways she exposed Diana and her sons to that same exploitation. One lifetime is not enough to pay off that debt so this is a legacy for Camilla, even though it is not her fault that she ended up in this position. Even with the best of intentions, karma is about our future selves getting the opportunity to see and experience from the point of view of what we have given to or taken from others, for better or for worse. Karma is not a punishment, but an exercise in enforced empathy that facilitates heightened compassion.

When someone is made to see through the eyes of what they have put others through, what happens to them can be an injustice, too. All in all, Charles and Camilla are going to be considered unsuitable for the role and the monarchical system is being threatened so William and Kate will need to take over in order to protect their children, who will not see the throne in the same way as any of their ancestors. What happens with George’s generation of royals will be unusual. I will cover some of the predictions about the future of the next generation of royals in another post.

“The Evolution of Family Therapy: Role-Playing and Recasting”

This card in its reversed position is ultimately about security. Beliefs about safety can be formed early in life or in past lives.

In terms of future news, this card is a signal that radical changes in family systems are on the horizon. One of the great twentieth-century psychotherapists who specialised in family systems and was considered to be the “Mother of Family Therapy” was Virginia Satir, MA, ACSW. She developed, practised, and taught an innovative method for evaluating and healing the roles in a family system. Part of this work involves modeling roles between the client and therapist to recast the person who is healing from a dysfunctional or obsolete family system. In the video below, Satir takes someone through a question-and-answer session, providing her with a feeling of safety that wasn’t present in an early family system:

Part of the modeling is feeling “everything is alright”, which is similar to internal recasting and remodeling that takes place in hypnotherapy after the critical mind has been bypassed so that new beliefs about family, safety, and possibility can be integrated into the unconscious mind. In a sense, turning reversed tarot cards right-side-up or upright cards upside-down is what hypnosis is about. If you don’t like the story the cards are telling you about where you are headed, you can change your belief systems and that can shift your destiny.

“The Religious Cult of Capitalism”

There is also the matter of how our collective destiny can shift as a result of mass changes in belief systems, and that is happening right now in our economic, religious, and family systems—but it is all connected. Some of this transformation will play out on the world stage through the location of the U.S., partly because it is a hyper-capitalist culture that fosters religious experimentation and religious extremism. Experimentation can foster innovation, but as we will see, there is going to be more innovation in a post-capitalist period than there is in late-stage capitalism. Freedom from financial anxieties and responsibilities gives more creative people the time and relaxation they need to invent new systems, whether those are belief-oriented, familial, financial, or creatively expressive. The 2 of Pentacles Reversed signifies a way of life that is out of balance. Something has to change and economic instability (pentacles Reversed) will be the first sign that a new way of life is not only imperative for our health but also inevitable for our survival.

“Hologram Dreams and the Kitchen of Illusions”

I had a dream last week about living in a communal mansion in the future where a robot maid was busy cleaning. The dream took place in two spaces at once. Food in the mini-kitchens adjacent to bedrooms, which were in addition to the central kitchen, prepared their own meals with built-in machinery. Cooking had become something of a historical novelty and specialty instead of something most people spent their time doing every day. This scene felt like it took place in both L.A. and New York, all at once, as if it was possible to be in two places at once. Something about this future series of scenes was similar to a hologram, yet more than an illusion. Particles were literally traversing space with a scientific method that hasn’t been available in physical form before, even if it has been a theory in physics and explored in sci-fi literature. This reminds me of Einstein’s theories and will likely be derived from some of his work that he didn’t live to see applied to physical reality—but that brings back his legacy nonetheless.

This is just the introduction to a story about hologram dreams I’ve been having. A sequel to this dream happened later that night. I will share the next part of the story with you in another post…

Future News for You

This card in its reversed position can be about choosing what matters most to you and prioritising. In other words, putting “first things first”. Is it possible to take a break? If not, are there some things that can be moved onto your calendar for tomorrow, or the next day? What really needs to be done today?

This card encourages vigilance about keeping up with paperwork and billing deadlines, or about being pulled in different directions with expenditures. As with scheduling, this card encourages a focus on the most important matters. If my schedule becomes overloaded, sometimes it helps me to use the Eisenhower Method or Eisenhower Matrix. This technique involves drawing a quadrant and separating tasks that are 1) urgent and important, 2) urgent and not important, 3) not urgent and important, and neither urgent nor important. By doing this, what I need to do today and can put off until tomorrow or even next week or month becomes clearer. this gives me some time in my day to relax, meditate, and stay focused on what is ultimately of ideal importance to me: my spiritual, emotional, and social life (which are all connected). If I take care of even one of those, other things seem to fall into place. My priorities are not the same as someone else’s, so you might find that taking care of what is most important to you (which could be family, school, work, projects, or something else) is what brings your own life back into balance. There is no right or wrong answer about what is meant to be important. Priorities change from one life to another and at different times in our lives.

The following is not a self-hypnosis exercise but it can be used to help put “First Things First” and turn the 2 of Pentacles in your life right-side-up again with a method that was used by President Eisenhower. Speaking of capitalism, shopping is also a value I no longer connect with in the same way. I still live in a capitalist period so shopping is almost inescapable, but I don’t seem to do it as much, especially now that I climate strike from shopping every Friday, along with other activists. Shopping in future times will change to another form of choices, as we move into a more equitable, sustainable period of hyper-trading and repurposing that will bring us all closer together.

Who knows what other unimportant and non-urgent tasks will fill that fourth quadrant in future times? Meanwhile, may you enjoy the important and unimportant in your own lives, and not necessarily in that order of importance…
