Aries
Ambition, motivation, determination, and the strength or will to carry on may be indicated by The Chariot. This card can signify the impetus to take control of something in your life…as long as it is something you can control. If not, redirect the Chariot to an area that you can control and try to accept that which is outside of your influence (this concept is expressed more elegantly in the Serenity Prayer). The city behind him indicates he has a community and perhaps even a city that is backing him up and supporting his goals. The wings of the chariot are a sign that his movement forwards could be in the form of a literal flight, or perhaps guided by something in another country and beyond the city from which he emerges.
When you get the Chariot card it can indicate that you are moving towards…
Taurus
The Magician is a card of seeking what you want, perhaps through building skills or abilities. Alternatively, maybe you will be visualising and rediscovering how you want your future to look or feel. The Magician makes opportunities for himself (or herself), and the four symbols of the tarot card suits resting upon his table indicate abundant resources for creating more of a life they want. His pointing to above and below alludes to the saying “As above, so below” and indicates that the change you seek will likely start from within.
If you could upgrade one area of your life,…
Gemini
The Nine of Cups features a man crossing his arms in what appears to be satisfaction with the cups he has acquired. They are above him and yet match the space behind and the floor beneath his feet. He seems secure in the way he sits and as indicated by what surrounds him, but will true security be attained if he fills the cups with relationships? The answer to that question is sometimes indicated in the next card of the deck, which is the Ten of Cups. The Ten of Cups that follows this card is a vision of shared emotional and domestic prosperity and harmony.
The man in the Nine of Cups may be a patron of the arts. His Renaissance clothing is reminiscent of the Medici family who patronised the arts in Florence during that time. In this image, are you the patron, or the creator? Even owning a business, parenting, or grandparenting can be a creative act. How much do you want to guard, and how much will you give? There is a balance between…
Cancer
The Two of Cups indicates a balanced and beneficial partnership, which might be romantic or business-related. In some cases, this card can signify alliances forged during charitable acts or volunteer endeavours. This stable and joyful connection and commitment is strengthened by not only mutual affection but also deep respect. The wingéd lion above them in the sky and the entwined snakes may be a sign of a spiritual blessing for strength and love, or strength in love.
Their cups gesture towards one another’s hearts, meaning…
Leo
Concentration on a task that could bring your vision to fruition may be indicated by the Ace of Swords, Leo. This card tells a story that celebrates the quest for honesty, rationality, and the ultimate truth. The hand emerges from a cloud and holds a sword, indicating that the depth of this truth may be driven by the guidance of a higher source.
That source could be earthly, as in seeking the counsel of a trusted expert, or spiritual, in which you are guided by inexplicable forces. Whatever your source may be for seeking and communicating the truth, this card is a sign that your thinking may be especially clear right now. Sharing your inspired ideas with the world can result in a thoughtful and meaningful contribution.
If you have been waiting or hoping for a breakthrough…
Virgo
The Three of Pentacles features several people, each dressed in very different clothing to indicate their training. They collaborate on a project that might be related to the physical structure in which they are situated. Their varying roles indicate that they each bring a different skill to what they are building together in that building.
This is a card of working together as a team, where no one is the ‘star’ but everyone is an important and needed part of an equal ‘ensemble’. The character in a worker’s uniform stands on a bench. His position above the others indicates that everyone is equally important in this undertaking, including manual labourers, or those who work ‘behind the scenes’. When you get this card, you may be about to embark on a successful venture, whether that is a hobby, apprenticeship, course, work project, or home renovation. Part of the joy of this undertaking will result from building a rapport with people you respect.
This card often represents a group, but once in a while, all three figures are aspects of your inner self. As a Virgo…
Libra
In the image of the Six of Swords, three faces are hidden from view. A man, woman, and child are depicted from behind. Their movement away from the viewer of this image indicates a departure from the past. The woman and child are protected by swords and guided by the man who rows this boat. The woman is hunched over. Perhaps she is seeking warmth during the journey. It is also possible that she is in hiding or protecting the child.
Some interpretations of this card indicate themes of privacy or escape to safety. It could be that this family or group suffered a loss in the previous land, or maybe they are just moving on to a new one for better opportunities. The people in this card are not bound by tradition. A deep sense of hope is embedded in the direction of the image, as the protection, guidance, and a view of a new land can be seen not too far in the distance. A new life is on the way. This card points to the power of overcoming the past and making active choices to live life in a way that works for you.
An asset of Libran qualities is the ability to get along, be diplomatic, and…
Scorpio
The Six of Pentacles represents generosity and the willingness to give or receive charity or acts of kindness. The story in this still suggests a message of ‘paying it forward’ for what the querent has been given. This act does not have to be material, as paying it forward can transpire through listening, showing up for someone, giving them some of your time, or being a loyal friend.
You will notice that the man doing the giving appears to be happy in this image. The scales he holds indicate a commitment to redistributing abundance, and the effort to make the world a fairer place. His good mood is a sign that the act of giving brought him joy, and possibly also balance in his life, as indicated by the scales he holds.
This card connects to the Scorpio tendency towards generosity, at least for those who have earned your respect. You have a knack for…
Sagittarius
The Page of Cups peers into a chalice with playful curiosity. The fish that emerges seems may have been scooped from (or jumped into) his cup from the ocean behind him. His meditation on the fish, and the floral pattern that he wears, may denote the spiritual connection or inspiration that he draws from nature.
Royal Cups figures are imaginative, creative, and emotional. Pages can be messengers in the tarot. The Page of Cups may be intuitive, artistic, or inspired, and he is privy to the realms of dreams and daydreams. When you draw this card, it is a time when you might enjoy or benefit from connecting deeply with your feelings or intuition.
The fish in the cup indicates a Piscean tendency to see beneath the surface of a body of water. If you are a Sagittarius and developing or practising psychic abilities, you might approach the topic academically…
Capricorn
Capricorn, when you draw the Hanged Man in a reading, the general meaning may relate to a period of respite, the necessity of waiting, or a time of deep contemplation. This waiting has a higher purpose, as portrayed in the upside-down view which helps him see above the Earth. He may be a Pisces or possibly another Water Sign.
While he appears to be in a period of indecision or uncertainty, this delay may prove beneficial as it will give things time to unfold. As the Alexander Graham Bell saying goes, “when one door closes, another door opens…”. Yet that doesn’t always mean the door opens immediately! Sometimes we’re made to wait in the hallway.
―Alexander Graham Bell
For a Capricorn, the Hanged Man might relate to that aspect of Saturn that keeps things suspended before a resolution. This card may also be interpreted as a call to meditation or deep introspection. Whether this is about a new perspective or the benefits of introspection during a waiting period, the Hanged Man indicates that an outcome…
Aquarius
The Sun is a joyous and celebratory card that may precede a period of happiness, support, optimism, and qualities attributed to the Sun Sign Leo (or possibly other Fire Signs). Since Leo and Aquarius are opposite polarities on the Zodiac wheel, this card potentially generates good feelings that emerge from a source beyond your influence.
This is a card of strength, fulfillment, and sharing these and other attributes with others socially and joyfully. If you’re not quite there yet, you can try…
Pisces
As a Pisces, you may feel it is part of your calling to protect the most vulnerable humans and other beings. This card indicates that the figure may hold an unpopular opinion, as his one wand fends off six others. In this image, not everyone sees or supports the lone figure’s point of view. Popularity doesn’t make something right, so standing alone doesn’t indicate that he is wrong. Notice that this man is standing on higher ground. He is encouraged to continue stating the facts despite any opposition because he knows he has taken the high road and a challenging (but ultimately more rewarding) path to truth.
As Leonardo da Vinci said, “When there is shouting, there is no true knowledge”. It’s as if the six unseen figures in the card are the ‘shouters’. They at least make a lot of noise by banging their sticks around. While the solitary figure might not be heard as but a whisper at first in comparison with the crowd, he does not stop speaking up and believing in what he knows to be right.
Alternatively, if there is a conflict with people you need to continue collaborating or connecting with, the Seven of Wands encourages you to…
