Life and Afterlife Coaching: "Transcending Spiritual Blocks"
Tonight on our "Changing Channels" episode of Zodiac Divas, we spoke with actress Kathy Kinney about channeling as an actor and how that relates to psychic and spiritual versions of channeling. It takes a certain amount of faith to improvise as an actor because there is an element of uncertainty, even to the performer, as to what's coming in the next moment. As Kathy mentioned, it's helpful to be present with other actors by listening and reacting to them in order to be believable as a character. Planning or anticipating the next moment can take away the truth of an actor's role. As a spiritual reader, it is also important to stay in the moment when one is channeling from another dimension of consciousness. It is only in the present that truth can be revealed in a reading, which is ironic considering that a lot of people receive psychic readings to gain additional information about what happened in the past and to find out what's coming in the future.
What holds us back from being in the moment? Why do we sometimes dwell on the past and anticipate the future? Determining the likeliest outcomes is a survival mechanism that helps us to prepare for possible impending crises, and trying to figure out the past is also a way of preparing for the future based upon previous experience. At the root of reminiscence and anticipation is a fear of the unknown. The knowns are comfortable and familiar, even if they are not always conducive to greater health and happiness. There are subconscious mechanisms we're all vulnerable to that will continue to attempt to sabotage our achievements unless we reprogramme ourselves through hypnosis or some other form of self-awareness such as therapy or a support group. A highly recommended book for overcoming inner blocks is The War of Art: Winning the Inner Creative Battle by Steven Pressfield.
Fear can prevent us from taking risks, whether we are attempting to reach our potential as an artist, actor, spiritual practitioner, or in any other meaningful capacity. Taking risks and having faith are both necessary components for having the perseverance to succeed in your calling, and perhaps the truest success is in being available to use your gifts for the highest good of everyone concerned. Once we become willing to use our abilities to serve others, our focus will be outside ourselves and the ego will no longer be involved. When identity is not a component in our efforts, we stop worrying about what others think of our work because we will no longer perceive our achievements as a reflection of ourselves. As soon as we're willing to use our work to benefit others rather than to be noticed or celebrated, the pressure to achieve an expected outcome is often removed, giving us permission to transcend our fears and arrive at a deeper truth that we can ultimately share with the world at large.
