Not to worry, I will still be offering psychic tarot readings…I know they are popular, and I appreciate all of you who have been coming to me for tarot card readings for so many years!

You may wonder why I am offering this for hypnotherapy. I see how much these sessions can help and I get a lot out of guiding people to transform in positive ways. And in an admittedly selfish way, hypnosis and hypnotherapy are increasingly becoming the focus of my research and writing. A possible message in this card appearing not only for December 2023 but also for all of 2024 is that what is set in motion in December has the potential to set the tone for 2024, at least when it comes to business.

When it comes to technology, The Hanged Man can recommend applying patience. As a card from the Major Arcana, it denotes a major change, but the shifts that are occurring in a major way will be in a developmental phase in 2024 before launching later. Delays brought about by The Hanged Man open the space for increased metamorphosis, so technology that is in the works for 2024 could be significantly transformative in future years. Death Reversed & 4 of Pentacles Reversed
Death Reversed could be worse! It could be upright, in other words…which would point to a more severe or radical transformation. In terms of climate change, expect resistance to change. That prediction is probably not unexpected!
There is an inevitability to some of the consequences of climate and environmental destruction that continue in 2024, but with Death Reversed, there is also a realistic potential to mitigate some of these atrocities.
The 4 of Pentacles Reversed can represent overcoming the past, being willing to share earthly resources, and governments that find their way forward in funding climate issues more generously. When next to Death Reversed, the message in the 4 of Pentacles Reversed is an intensification of pressure on governments and organisations to prioritise the climate and environment. This call to change through peaceful strikes from a large number of activists, and subsequent action, makes it possible to diminish the frequency and severity of disasters. There is a warning in this card: the commitment to striking peacefully, staying focused, and not veering into or funding unrelated issues will have to be consistent and unified for this improvement to happen.
Perceived another way, it becomes apparent to those in power that rebuilding after disasters is far more costly than prevention. The shift occurs for economic reasons, and 2024 highlights a broader space for making this case to organisations and policymakers.
Arts & Entertainment News From the Future
4 of Wands
Here’s that card again! Something that is happening in December is planting a seed for the business of arts and entertainment in 2024. As a positive and joyful card, expect reasons for optimism that are originating in and resulting from the arts. Three visits to the 4 of Wands in two consecutive readings may signify a very creative year. If you have a creative hobby or practice that you’ve been meaning to get back to…now is the time to resurrect a dream that gives you joy!
U.S. News From the Future
The Empress
A theme of women’s rights, in addition to female vice presidential and other candidates, comes to the forefront of American politics. The Empress encourages nurturing and making choices that are driven by unconditional love instead of fear.
Fear is a key component in making authoritarianism possible, and part of the push-pull we will see in this election year is a flocking of voters to Communism or fascism. Neither of those extremes will bring the safety, peace, or comfort that most people seek, as freedom is always compromised when totalitarian regimes take hold. Humans aren’t happy without freedom, and we shouldn’t have to settle for any less than a free life, as long as no harm is done to anyone. However, we will be forced to explore these extremes in American politics (both Canada and the U.S., but to a greater extent in the U.S. with its two-party system).
The far-left and far-right will be pushed forward with unprecedented propaganda.…especially to susceptible younger generations who are voting for the first time, and to to some extent in a group of the oldest voters who will react against far left. I say this without judgment…it goes back to dreams I’ve been having for years in which Communism and fascism come to the surface side by side in the United States. The feeling in the dreams is an ominous one and there will be new problems, mostly related to freedom versus security, before there is an implementation of any solution.
This generational gap (between much older and much younger) generates what looks like wildness and chaos in the upcoming elections. I had a dream about ballots flying and confusion. Third-party candidates throw in an additional component that could throw the election.
The argument against running to one end of the political spectrum or the other out of fear will thus be in some op-eds and interviews of 2024, with the following warning: both extremes of authoritarianism, whether Communist or fascist, create limitations for women and vulnerable groups, including men who are vulnerable in one way or another. There can be no protection for the vulnerable when totalitarianism is given fire to kindle its flames. Yet it always burns out in the end, as we can see from history. I’ve recommended it before on my blog, but Hannah Arendt’s 1951 book The Origins of Totalitarianism provides a parallel description of the rise of Nazism and Stalinism that can help to illuminate the extreme political trends we are seeing in our times.
You can be part of the light in the darkness by staying educated and informed amidst this time of confusion. I don’t do things perfectly, and none of us is perfect (how boring would that be!), but I periodically remind myself to 1) check with reliable primary sources and 2) question who funds or otherwise benefits from the media that I choose to read.
World News From the Future
Ace of Pentacles
A new global currency? A different trading system? A fresh approach to material life? The Ace of Pentacles can mean any or all of these things. It can also be about an innovative opportunity that results in an unusual accumulation or redistribution of resources.
In terms of career in conjunction with world news, the Ace of Pentacles signifies a fresh perspective on the meaning of ‘work’. This card can help people question what they want out of their careers. Why do we do what we do, and is that changing? The new year is an apt time to ask this question.
Part of this shift may be inspired by the development of AI that inevitably alters how people spend their time. While The Hanged Man in this reading offers a spiritual answer to this question, The Empress invites a return to nature, simplicity, and the irreplaceable value of connection. Together, these cards can signify a spiritual exploration of nature or a natural reconnection to spirituality.
The 4 of Wands (which has shown up three times in just two of our prediction readings this month) is a call to harmonious and gratifying partnership. This card encourages connection through a community as a means to provide security. The 4 of Wands can inspire an increase in peace, from the local to the universal—both of which can support the prevention of authoritarianism. By nurturing security through community support, fears can be assuaged. Diminished fear can follow, accompany, or advance increased acceptance. There is no power in the allure of totalitarianism when communities provide economic security and social acceptance.
The 4 of Wands also signifies a significant trend towards working from home, and perhaps more than ever before in 2024.
2024 Future News for You
9 of Pentacles Reversed + All of the Above…
The 9 of Pentacles Reversed cautions against overspending or living beyond one’s means. Saving in 2024 will be appreciated in years to follow. This means that there could be a radical change to financial systems. It is as if the image in this card has been turned upside-down and the coins are emptying from her pockets. Yet she still holds the bird…perhaps her freedom, or a connection to spirit.
Perhaps there is a reason to be cautious about money next year in anticipation of what is to come (the cards indicate that it has something to do with climate and environmental disasters, especially related to water [Neptune in Pisces] and fire [Pentacles cards]). However, this shift is also part of what will generate more of a focus on community, family, and a simpler, more spiritually and emotionally connected way of life that was alluded to in The Empress and Ace of Pentacles. This human connection is needed for survival just as much as material comfort. 2024 is partly about finding a balance between community and security, and possibly creating both in new ways at the same time.
A combination of Pentacles cards (Ace and 9 of Pentacles), Wands cards (4 of Wands showing up twice), and several Major Arcana cards that relate to femininity, spirituality, and delayed endings, point to overall themes of creativity, partnership, or career renewal. One of these areas has the potential to provide more nurturing, satisfaction, or meaning as a cumulative theme for humanity this year. The community support of 2024 transforms helplessness and hopelessness into the gifts of giving and receiving help and hope.
A less gratifying or productive way of life is on its way out, as a new approach to living that is more emotionally rewarding is making its way into world consciousness…first internally, as The Hanged Man shows, and then, as the Pentacles denote, throughout the realm of your material reality.

Dear Kyra, how exciting to see what's in store for 2024!
I have especially been feeling the energy of the 4 of Wands myself, after completing my postgraduate degree, and going back to being a freelancer artist for the first time since 2018. I'm not gonna lie, though, it has been quite scary to do this transition at such a critical historical moment, especially since I live currently in Berlin. The ongoing political climate here has seen an unprecedented level of censorship of artists and freedom of speech by the German government and cultural institutions themselves, especially when it comes to critical voices calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. I'd been contemplating myself a move to another country, given this situation, but it feels like there's no place to hide, as this turn to political extremes–as you write in the article about the US– seems to be happening in other places in the world as well.
As I'd left my home country of Brazil in 2018, because of this exact polarisation of society, which led to artistic production being severely undermined by a lack of arts and culture funding, I seem to find myself at a similar crossroads now in Berlin many years later. I've been waiting for the answer on public funding for my projects here, but Berlin–notoriously a creative city, home to many artists–does not have a track record of paying these same artists just fees, or making it possible for them to earn a living within the possibilities of Berlin alone. This has been pushing me to try and find work elsewhere in Germany, where the salaries for arts and culture are more handsomely paid.
At the same time, Berlin rewards me with a great community of immigrants and expats, and I've just gotten my own apartment through Germany's social housing after many years of searching for a place, due to this city's desperate housing crisis. In fact, the great social system in Germany is one of the reasons why I haven't left this country.
What I'd like to ask you then is, would you please guide me in understanding if I'll be able to manifest the 4 of wands energy whilst living in Berlin, or if I will truly indeed need to lead a life wandering for work in other cities in Germany (and/or the rest of Europe), whilst keeping my home base in Berlin?
